DSW Pro 600 VS. Def Tech Pro sub 800

so here is the deal. I have a room that is 14x15 with 17ft high ceilings that open to the second floor. The room is also open to my kitchen, dining room and foyer. Basically its a horrible room for a HT but its all i have to work with for now.

anyway i ordered a DSW 600 to replace my def tech 800 bc im trying to get a little more punch out of my HT. Did i make a mistake in ordering this or do you think this will help me get more out of my HT? I would of liked a SVS PB 12 plus but i didnt have the $ and wont for a while. I will eventually get a better sub but as with most people money is tight right now. basically looking to see if anyone has done something similar and what they thought of the DSW 600. I dont need it to be house shaking but a little more low end wouldnt hurt. thanks for any replies. I appreciate it. check out my sig for the gear i am currently running. thanks.

one more thing. There is a storage space under the stairs directly behing my main sitting area. I was thinking about putting the pro sub 800 behind the wall for some more sound in the rear. Do you think this would be a good thing or would it be overkill and drown out my rears? thanks

last thing i promise. Do you think an external amp would be worth the money and if so what do you think would be a smart buy? Should i get one for all 5 channels or go with less?

I have the PRO-600 sub in a room with a large open floor plan, and I'm happy. The 600 is suprisingly more musical than I thought and adds a nice low end for HT. But don't expect it to shake the windows or move the house off it's foundation, you can expect a moderate amount of low end vibrations.

Thanks Jimmy. I just hate to spend $500 and not really get much out of it. I guess i can try it and if its not that big of an improvement i can return it. also orded CSI 5 (replacing CSI A4) center to match up with my RTI 10's so im hoping that will improve overall sound. BOth are supposed to come on 10-7 so i will be sitting at my door waiting for UPS. haha.

the vsx94 is no slouch but those rti10s will really open up with more power. as Jimmy said don't expect to shake the walls with the dsw600 but its a great sub for the money. has lots of tweeking options.

Thanks for the reply. I have the RTI's bi amped to help out with feeding those pigs. That enough or you think i need to still add some more power? I know most people would say that the more power the better but i dont want to spend the money if i dont have to. thanks again.

with bi-amping your not gaining any more power to your speekers. some folks say they can hear a difference, most wouldn't waste the speeker wire. I've never tried it. a good clean 200wpc amp would really make your speekers open up, even at lower volumes you'll notice a lot more detail. It all depends on what your after, if it sounds good and your carefull with the volume your good to go.

just got the dsw pro 600 hooked up. Didnt really calibrate it yet but OMG it brings so much more to the table. Watched car chase scene in the dark night and it blew me away with the explosions from the crashes. Cant wait to get this thing set up properly and see what it can do. I think its worth the money for a mid priced sub. It will work until i can get some more money together.

The sub will get better with time, I have about 40-60 hours on my 600 and I think it's starting to come into it's own. Just recently I'm noticing much more detail and power, especially in HT. I find myself lowering the volume on the sub for the same effect.
SJ, have you noticed this with yours?

Just a quick word on Bi-amping....I have my LSI-15's bi-amped with an Emotiva XPA-5, I've noticed a subtle difference when bi-amped, mostly in the low end. So I can take it or leave it.

Jimmy I have noticed the same thing. The sub is just coming alive with time. The only tweeks I've made with it lately is just turning down the gain. Much more pronounced and defined. like a fine wine..
