Onkyo TX-SR876 Issue...

Have had this receiver for a month or so and have been quite happy with it. I just started noticing that if I am watching a blu-ray and want to switch the input to cable..... I must switch the input on the receiver before I turn the power off on the blu-ray player. If I turn the power off on the blu-ray first, leaving the TV screen dark, and then hit the cable input, the image is scrambled. Rebooting the receiver fixes the problem. OR I simply need to switch the input before I cut the power on the blu-ray. Wonder if that is a defect in the receiver?

Since I had no replys, I resorted to sending Onkyo an email about the problem. They responded within 24 hours and gave me the instructions on how to do a complete clearing of everything in memory and reboot. Seems like that fixed the problem. I really appreciate the Onkyo customer service on this issue. It was quick, to the point, and fixed the problem.

Wow...this is the first time I've ever heard of Onkyo's CS being fast.

The few times I've had to write them, it's taken over a week to get a response.

Good to hear you got your issues resolved.

Wow. You are one of the few to make a positive comment about them.

Glad to hear it all worked out okay.

I am amazed too, I love Onkyo's products and own an 806 myself, but one thing that is usually been there downfall was their CS. Glad you were one of the lucky ones and got it fixed. Sorry we weren't able to help you ls7.

Actually, I was amazed too. This was the first time I had ever tried contacting them and reading the same posts you do, my expectation was low. I was sure pleasantly surprised. Maybe they have turned over a new leaf. Or maybe my problem was an obvious and easy fix. Whatever the case, they did a good job and I wanted some people to know it since so much negative is all we read.

They told me to hold down a couple of buttons at the same time. The receiver displays the word "Clear" and your entire memory is erased and the unit is reset just as it came from the factory. Sure seems like it worked.

With all the options and things these AVR's are capable of today it is very easy to mess something up and not even know it. Esp. the 876, which until recently was considered their flagship AVR, that thing is a beast and I'm sure it is easy to mess something up on that AVR and not even know it with all the available options. Could be a tweak you did to it when you first set it up, or could have been something that just happened. Either way glad Onkyo was able to come through and help you get it fixed. I know I love my Onkyo, and will continue to support them in the future when it is time to upgrade my 806.

Glad you got it sorted out. If you have any other problems, don't hesitate to browse over to AVSforum.

They have dedicated threads for just about every AV receiver out there and the Onkyo threads are full of very good info. I'm still loving my 805 and will probably have it until it dies.

EDIT: Here is a link to the SR876 thread:
