The biggest flaw in the "assumptions" is that the value seen by hijackers was in the cargo. There are other reasons to hijack ships. Cargo, secret or known often does not bring large results because it's traceable. However, ransoms on the other hand, now that usually gets paid because not every country is capable of sending a strike force of any size to free their citizens and recover the hijacked vessel. It's only stupid hijackers that hijack ships from a country that doesn't have a lame duck military and striking capability anywhere on the globe within hours.
But, the details are muddy and Russia is keeping silent so what happened is only speculation. There is opportunity to derive some level of conspiracy out of it but what was mentioned in the article is flawed. There is a question as to why hijackers would have taken a ship loaded with lumber as well as how hijackers could have boarded a ship in such highly regulated waters as well. Is something being hidden? Without a doubt otherwise Russia would be blabbing. Is it good or bad? Who knows. Maybe Russia is just trying to save face in the light of an internal screw up of some sort like the Kursk disaster several years back.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
