Xmas ideas?

This will seem backwards.... But i'm looking for Christmas ideas. For ME.

I'm probably driving my girlfriend nuts with not being able to think of anything i want for Christmas besides the usual CDs. Normally, i'd ask for car parts, but all of the little stuff is pretty much done on the Celica, and asking for spools of wiring isn't too fun, and i'd just as soon buy it myself.

So... that leaves really my only other hobby. Audio stuff.

Keeping in mind that she works part time and has a fairly limited budget, what are some inexpensive upgrades/toys/tweaks that could be incorporated into my rig?

I feel like i've kindof hit the stage on my setup that there probably isn't much i could do for in the $200-300 range. I think a used DAC would probably yield the most improvement, but i'm not sure that i could find a used DAC that would satisfy my wants in that price range.

Any ideas? She's been bugging me for the last week about what i want, because she wants to start shopping/saving now.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Score some huge brownie points and suggest a long weekend at a bed and breakfast. Guaranteed good sex and breakfast in bed. Even after the weekend is over, it's the gift that keeps on giving.

You and I keep coming back to that... do you think that's the next logical step with my system?

I've been see-sawing back and forth between wanting to pick up one of these as instant gratification or going a bit higher up the chain so i'm not spending the same money twice later on.

But that being said, i don't think i'll have a truly amazing 2-channel setup anytime soon, either, so i may not ever need anything better than the DacMagic.

I'll mention it to her. :) Thanks!

That's an idea.... bit out of her budget though. I've got all kinds of ideas for her, she's not a problem. I do plan on taking her somewhere for her birthday that this could be incorporated into though, and that's only 3 weeks after christmas. :D

Good sex is always good, though. :p

Working part-time and a limited budget I personally would not feel comfortable asking for much. Pick a couple good CD's. Music and should be economical.

I should clarify a little bit... she doesn't have much for bills, and she's the one bugging me about picking out more than just a few cds. :p Neither of us have that many people to spend on other than each other. By part time i mean like... 30-35 hours a week. It's not that bad.

I told her i'd be happy with nothing... i don't need or want much at this point. I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with ideas for the last week, and it's been frustrating. I can't really ask for the motor that i need for the Celica for obvious reasons.

I think i should have picked some cheaper hobbies. :p

Why don't you pool you $$ and do something for each other, as mentioned a B&B or a trip to another city with a nice dinner and a show?

I compared it to a Cambridge 840C back to back in the same rig.

The 840C was more transparent, but the DacMagic sounded fuller and the imaging was better.

If you're not happy with it, they do sell fairly quickly on Audiogon.

I think that pretty much seals it, then. :)

Yeah... i'm going to bring up the idea with her. Already have at least 2 trips planned over the next few months, though. Going to try to teach her how to ski this winter and do a trip around that, and we've been planning on going out to Chicago for a long weekend this winter as well.

A good, inexpensive turntable and a trip to a record store. There are a few down here worth going to and about a ba-zillion in Louisville; make that a weekend getaway for the two of you. She can buy herself some music and you can share the experience.

? Harmon Kardon AVR 55 (dead; replacing with Onkyo TX NR-616)
? Polk RTA 11TL's (FR and FL)
? Polk TSi200's (RR and RL)
    ? Polk CS10 (Center)
    ? Polk PSW-350
    ? Grado SR-60i Headphones
    ? Fii0 E5 headphone amp
    ? iPod touch (8 gig)
    ? iPod Classic (80 gig)
? Mac Mini (as media server)
    ? xbox 360
