Live Sound Power AMP (PA)

Hey,
I'm in the process of building a HT and so far i have a Harman Kardon 254 reciever and Polk Rti a7's fronts. the rest does not matter right now.

i am new to this but i read somewhere(don't remember) that using a live sound power amp works just as well as a Home Theater Amp. i was wondering if anyone has tried this. a used to be in a band and have a pretty powerful QSC amp that powered Peavey dual 15 inch PA speakers.

The amp is at home and i am at school a few hours away. ***sorry i do not have the model number or any specs. i was first wondering if an over-powerful live sound amp can damage my speakers. (without going crazy with volume). (EX:speakers are rated up to 250 watts. if the amp is putting out 300 is that a problem?)

Obviously i have to make the conversion to XLR to input the amp. i was wondering what happens to the rear and center channel if i do this. how do i get the volumes to even out?

any other thoughts? i will post the model of the amp when i can call home and have someone read it to me. (it is big maybe about 10 or 15 years old and heavy.)

There are some cheapo pro amps that I would be cautious using. Yours is not one of those. Not sure if your model has fans, that would be the downside-if the noise becomes an issue.

QSC has a very good reputation for making good, clean power amps. You won't damage your speakers with the extra power.(within reason)

    Enjoy. And welcome to CP!
