I would NOT mount it above the fireplace. TV's should be eye level when sitting down. Just reconfigure the room.

That's really just an opinion. Many people like to look up at the TV, sorta like in the theater! Most true home theaters have some elevation to the screen. As long as there is no picture loss due to off angle viewing, there is no problem with it. In fact, if you have a recliner or like to kick back, then it actually works out better to have it elevated. With LCD, you have to have a tilt mount to get straight on viewing though since the light output varies if you off angle (vertically or horizontally)

i'm sorry if this pisses anyone off.. but putting an LCD/plasma mounted over the fireplace is so passe now.. everyone does it now.. personally.. I think mounting them there is way to high.

good TV viewing would never have a TV mounted that high. even if sitting far back.. you're still looking up.

Brett.. you have a flat panel TV. the mounting possibilities are endless. Personally.. I think flat panel TV's mounted on a plain wall look the cleanest and you can vary the height pretty easily.

I understand not everyone has the ideal house/wall for the new larger screen TV's. but a wall is solid.. and it doesn't compete with the fireplace. Personally... i'd hate to be watching TV and have to stare into a fireplace.. whether it's going or not. The fireplace flickering would bug the holy bejesus out of my TV watching enjoyment. I like a room dark and nothing flickering when I'm watching TV. :)

    but that's just me.
I totally agree....but you have to look at my living room photos to see that there are zero.....not one solid surface that would accomodate a TV for viewing. The fireplace wall is THE one wall that would have done so, had there not been a 20' tall fireplace in my living room......

I'll probably cove it in front of a few windows because I agree that the height is what would most bother me about it......

space to the right means the tv gets corner loaded.....and if the fireplace is at 12, there's an alcove at 3, but i don't want the tv in front of the windows.......might have to though.......i could get the tv, vm30s, a microsub and it would work out well for the most part.......aside from the fact that it would eat my windows.......

What about if put this or something like it front of the windows.

Not a bad look, but i don't need a cabinet enclosed tv........i have no problems with the tv being on a stand, but it's just less ideal than i'd have wanted it to be........i'll survive with it there i suppose

Sorry thsmith, i didn't mean for that to sound so dismissive..........

I just need to get a functionality out of that room that i don't know really exists because of it's funky layout.....

If anything, maybe it'll make me watch less tv and be more active..............HAHAHHA.....not likely........

Brett, which tv do you have?
I just checked a couple of 50" plasmas for samples and they both are 48.5" wide
    Pioneer - KURO / 50" Class / Product Width 48-4/7"
    Samsung - 50" Class / Model: PN50B850Y1F Product Width 48-5/7"

How wide is it from the FP wall to the wdw wall? Looks to be close to 4 feet at least.

How far out is the wdw in the corner? It looks like at least 3 feet.

Also, at a 45degree angle [max], you would have at least 4'3" before the window.
Just use a full extension wall mount. Pull out or push flat against the wall (if there is room)

I understand it must be frustrating having just bought a house and not having room for a TV. But I think it can be resolved.

Maybe cell shades for the lower windows, blinds for the uppers, make an 'L' with a double/triple recliner on the stair wall, and a love seat or chairs partitioning the room opposite the fireplace? TV and stand in the nook. You wouldn't have to make any holes, and could move it all downstairs when the time came.
