quick question,
i was playing smashing pumpkins today (1979) and i had the radio up to 40 (50 max) and the tweeters were making a weird sound
it sounded like a REALLY tight snare, but it wasnt the song b/c when i turned the bass down it quit
the speakers were installed for me since i didnt want to cut up the cab so i let them do it
powered by a power 500.2 rf
what are the settings i should be looking for to fix the problem?
or is it just a ....hey stupid, turn the bass down type thing?

your deck is prolly clipping on the trebble --- if 50 is max, 35 is probably you're "highest before the pre-outs clip". this is why most 4 volt preouts are actually like 2.5 volt "rms" preouts.

up the gain on the amp just a big... lower the volume on the head.. bet u get just as loud without the distort.

but it sounds like its with the song...
    know what im talking about?
its part of the song but its not sposed to sound that way
would it still be the hu?
im getting a new one in may
that pioneer premier deh-p930? i think
the one w/ 6 volt preouts
it was clipping out or whatever it was doing at 40
ill turn the gain up next weekend
    see if that helps
    btw...this truck slams like a ****

well lemme give u a lil analogy here...

randy travis -- "deeper than the holler (hollar?)" .

if i dial my volume up to higher than 22 on the factory pressed version of this cd, it distorts the vocals in the manner of almost pulling the top end of the voice out and extending it beyond its normal time limitation.

like a resonating reverberating sounds like the tweeter is fried kind of sound.

it depends on the amplitude of the wave on the cd --- like some older 80's songs and stuff have a lower amplitude of recording and as such they tend to let u dial up your volume on the head higher before it distorts. but at some point.. its going to start to break up.

that's usually 2/3 - 3/4 depending on the mfg of your deck.

i've noticed my grandfather's pioneer deh-p5200 does like 40+ cleanly.. but like 42 or so it starts to tick out. i think it goes up to 55. that'd be like 3/4.

like i said my alpine and most of the other alpines i've seen drop our at 2/3 ... same for kenwood. sony and pio seem to roll higher.
