I have been told this unit will make cd sound like sacd. Hard to believe for 400 bucks.

    Agreed.

    OP I think you will need a SACD played and SACDs to enjoy those benefits.:(

    Its old, yamaha cdc675 but i use bdp-83 oppo for my sacd, dvd-a and cd.

    The Oppo seems like a solid unit. Try the ERC-1 if you'd like... but i don't think it'll be much improvement if any. I can't go into too much more detail because we all agreed to hold off until the demo was done, but if you PM me saying you want more info, i'll give you my thoughts about it compared to what i compared it with. :)

    Here is an attempt to compare the two on the Emo forum that may help you.

    IIRC Emo has a 30 day return policy, so why not just try it out to see how it sounds in your setup. I do not recall what it cost me to ship the above mentioned ERC-1 demo to the next one on the list but the $26 number keeps popping in my head. So if it doesn't give you $400 improvement over what you have it didn't cost much to find out.

    It doesn't come close to sounding like SACD. Not a bad player for $400, it sounded better than I expected but, there is ALOT of competition at that price point. Not sure it would be my top choice at that price point but it would certainly make the list if I were looking for an entry level player.

    ^Pretty much my thoughts if you're looking only on the new market. Once you expand the $400 to the used market, it's a whole 'nother ball game.
