Like I asked before but only one replied to this. When it comes to which speakers the amp should power and which ones the reciever should power how should I configure that specifically? Should I let the amp power all 7 and just let the reciever do the decoding or should I let the amp power the fronts and rears only and let the reciever power the sides only?

    Which option:

    A) Amp powers all 7 speakers and reciever decode only?
    B) Amp powers the fronts and rears only, reciever powers sides only and decodes?

Externally amp your front L/C/R. Let the receiver drive the surrounds. The receiver driving the surrounds will have plenty of power.

Guys, he has a 7 channel 400wpc Sunfire amp, he should use it to power all 7 of his channels.

I had my receiver driving my back speakers & when I hooked them up to my Sunfire, they sounded 10x better.

ALL speakers benefit from more power, including surrounds.
Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

    Cathy is right.

Use the amp for all channels, and use an SPL meter to calibrate. Then check back with us.

For DV that serves no purpose. For people looking for an amp to use with an AVR on a low budget that is a valid option, buy a 2 or 3 ch amp, for the front stage and power the rest with the AVR. But for those with a good 7 ch amp, or the freedom to invest in one when amp shopping that is the way to go.

DV there is no silver bullet (especially one that everyone will agree on) for great sound. Sound is the sum of numerous variables, which have all been mentioned in this thread. You could hear something you really like, go out and identically purchase every piece of gear to duplicate that desired sound, and it may or may not sound as good in your room.

You said you have a pro coming to cal your setup. Watch closely what he does, take notes as to what it did with the sound. So as not to disturb him after he is done, ask him any questions you may have, just remember he does this to put food on his table, so don't expect to keep him for too long without paying for it. I'm willing to bet you will be happy with your system after, if not try some of the suggestions given here, or any he may have offered you to slowly experiment with things.

I've been searching for a decent amp to power my SDA/SRS2's and have read about all the brands mentioned here. Right now I'm using a Adcom 545 amp which has been ok, but I know the Polks are begging for more watts. I need to know if these Parasound HCA 1200 MK II or HCA-1500 amps are common ground and will be sufficient for the Polks? Have been told that these amps run hot, just not sure if they run as hot as some of the Onkyos I;ve heard about, you can use them as a hot plate to cook with, lol. I'm using a Yammy 6160 (same as 663) as a preamp.
