Quality of CD's?

I briefly searched the forum in case anyone had the same issue I do but couldn't find anything so I'm posting a thread seeking a little advice.
I remember vaguely reading somewhere on here about the quality of SACD's and how the same disc purchased from different stores weren't of the same quality? I.E. some company probably bought a master track and used it for production or something?
Well, my wife has also been purchasing CD's she used to own and we got one by Rise Against. Playing it back through my system I noticed a few "pops" kind of like the ones you hear when playing back a record but it wasn't at all loud. I thought to myself that I might have a loose wire or dirty contacts but before going that far I decided to rewind the track to the time I heard the pop. Sure enough it played back at the same exact time, over and over I did it again. The pop came in clear when playing it on Pure Direct, and also on Stereo (but not as distinct). Tossed it in the cd changer in the car and I too heard it there in the same spot but not as well, could've missed it if I didn't even realize it in my own system.
The cd looks to be in the same quality as the original we had, IE printing of all bookwork/cd/etc but I can't tell about the SQ difference because I didn't own the setup back then that I do now. Question is, are there really that many different variations of a cd in mass production? And did I get some not-so-great copy? Everything sounds great except the distinct pops I hear in some songs.
My wife says we should go out and rebuy it somewhere and compare copies, I just figured we'd go back and see if we can exchange it for a new one at the same store. Just want to know if anyone else has experienced this, thanks.

Hmmm... what song and time is it? I own all the Rise Against cds. I can check to see if mine has the same distortion/pop.

The Sufferer and the Witness
I heard like 2 other songs with it but I don't want to look for it. Track 13 has the pop within the first 2 seconds. There's no distortion at all, just an audible pop at around the same volume level or lower than the track itself.Truck setup

Are you sure it isn't intentional? For the longest time I thought my Queensryche track "Is there anybody listening?" had a skip in it. Turns out the beginning is recorded that way...Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I don't see why it would be intentional, but if it is I think it's kind of dumb. It'd bother me if I was doing any critical listening.Truck setup

No. Sorry I don't hear any pops in my copy. In fact I listened to the beginning of all the songs on the album and didn't hear any pops. I'm sure it could be a bad copy. Recording processes can mess up just like any computer system can.

Thanks for that!
I'll just take it back and see if I can switch it out for another copy, if not my wife insists it should just sit inside the car. :rolleyes:Truck setup

If they try to give you trouble, just have the store play it and point out the popping. -

That was my intent, it's a local private shop.....not anything like Best Buy/Target/etc.Truck setup

I have the same issue with this CD. Checked track 13 and get a pop at 1 second in as well as 37 seconds in. This is both playing it in a CDP and playing the songs on my PC that I ripped using EAC in secure mode. -

Switched out the CD with another new copy, same thing. Something in the recording process I guess, I get the 'pop' at the same time in the same tracks. Guess you got one of the same copies too huh GaaraTruck setup

CD's are stamped when they are made similiar to vinyl, they dont actually write the info to each disc.
it is possible the tick/pop got onto the master and poor QC let it make it's way to you and everyone else.
