And it was awesome...
I was amazed at how many young people were there... Dad wanted to take me since it's one of his favorite bands but backed out and gave the tickets to me and the gf.
Good times.

Love Neil Schon and is Aynsley Dunbar still with them? That new singer is spazztic and drives me up a wall. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.-Kevin

Yes they are. I didn't mind the new singer except he was jumping around a lot. They said that's why they chose him though. He sounds pretty good all things considered.Main Surround -

Without Greg Rolie they will never be the same to me. Steve took the band in a direction I could have lived without.-Kevin

Dunbar hasn't been with them in a looooong, long time. I saw Journey recently too...second song: guitar solo. Lather, rinse, repeat. I like Schon's playing too, but for cripe's sake, we don't need an extended solo in every freakin song. Deen Castronovo fills in pretty well on drums. (large shoes to fill)
All in all, a decent show, but the singer kept referring to the crowd, as Chicago...(the show was in Rockford), too much guitar wankery (filler) and something I can't quite put my finger on....seemed too polished, and slick. I know that was a Journey trademark, but this seemed even more 'Vegas', than rock show. I thought Heart blew them out of the water..... -

Yeah, I gotta say I pretty much completely lost interest after "Departure".
I saw them several times back in the day and they were always very good.
I recently saw some footage from a festival w/the new singer and was so annoyed by his running around and over the top behavior that I turned the channel. The poor guy has no authenticity as a rocker front man.
I did not notice whether or not Dunbar was still playing with them or not. Not at all surprised he isn't. Neil is/was great but is probably just phoning it in for the paycheck.-Kevin

I am assuming you are talking about the "large shoes" being Steve Smith's - the drummer who was with them during their hay day?
Maybe it's just me but seeing Journey without Steve Perry is like seeing Heart without Ann or Nancy Wilson.7.3 HT: Sunfire TGR-3, Sunfire Series II, Mirage OMD-28, OMD-5 (x4), REL T1 (2), T2, Oppo 103D, Optoma HD8200PRO, 106" screen, SB Touch

+10000. Miss the old days. Randy Jackson of "American Idol" fame had a stint as their bass player on tour in the late seventie's, early eighties, LOL. Not the same band without Steve though. Sorry OP, ignore my bitchin, happy you had a fun night out with the GF.:)

I wouldn't turn down the free ticket, glad you both had a good time.
Twas my first show, in 1986. I was sheltered.-Ignorance is strength - -
Actually, Randy Jackson played bass only on their last tour with Perry on the "Raised on Radio" tour of 1986/1987. He did play bass on the song "After the Fall" off of the "Frontiers" album.Music and Movie Rig
