I was sitting around last night, and thought to myself "Man, i wish i had an SACD player now that my system is finally coming together."

Oh yeah. Duh. I DO have one. So, i need a first SACD.

I'm not really into jazz anymore.
Not really into classic rock.
I can do classical, but i really just like Baroque and Rennaissance era.
I like modern rock/alternative, but a lot of my favorite bands could be called indie or post-hardcore/punk/whatever.

Are there any that you think i might enjoy that really stand out as being excellently recorded? Only looking for stereo, no 5.1 or any of that stuff.

I'm going to start perusing Amazon when i get more time later today and see if i can find anything i like, i'm just worried about picking one that may not sound better than some of my better-recorded regular old cds.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Nine Inch Nails -The Downward Spiral 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Excellent 2 ch and interesting 5.1 mix. Be aware that there is a DVD-A dual disc as well, but does not contain the second disc, just the original stuff with a 5.1 mix. I have both, the SACD is better.

Dire Straits- Brothers in Arms. Excellent, maybe the best sounding SACD I have. Absolute must have.

I have no recommendations for Classical, but there are some excellent choices available.

Thanks for the input so far.... i may steer away from the Handel... not a big fan of organ as an instrument, but at least it was the right genre. :D

Dire Straits and NIN could be a go, though, thanks!

Seeing as you are not interested in 5.1, I won't extol the virtues of the multichannel layer, however the stereo layer is also amazing, you should give it a listen.

    Nickel Creek
    Nickel Creek - This Side

While the surround mix on This Side is too overdone for my tastes, the 2-channel on both of these completely blow away the CD versions (which were excellent in their own right). Bluegrass may not be your thing... but the instruments (and the amazing voices of Chris Thile and Sara Watkins) will definitely be a highlight for you on the audio side.

Might not be your "cup of tea", but Avalon by Roxy Music is well done as a disc
in SACD stereo. Also, I'm partial to the Kinks SACD's. Most are in SACD stereo & well done.

If you're into bluegrass type of music, Nickel Creek's 2 SACDs are excellent. I don't have my discs in front of me, but if I remember correctly, these were direct-to-DSD recordings and were produced by Alison Krauss. Chris Thile also has a solo album on SACD, but it's super hard to find.

I'm beginning to think I will never receive my copy from Amazon. Ordered it two months ago.
I have had it on LP and CD. It was extremely well recorded and mixed so I can't wait to hear it on SACD.

Listened to it again this morning, and it is excellent, although I'm in no way a Roxy fan, they did have some interesting album covers. By the way, my personal favs on Avalon are "More than This" & "Take a Chance With Me". Ironic? for a non Roxy fan :D

guys the SACD discs have a two channel layer. Exceptions if they even still exist are extremely rare most were just marketed a multi but had the stereo layer as well, typically the disc is either sacd stereo only or sacd multi and stereo or with hybrid they add a redbook layer to the SACD tracks, DSD does in fact help redbook recordings sound better.

If your going to go digital SACD is a great investment in building your music collection.
