Finally Happy
Systems

Hey yall... A few weeks ago I jumped on here and gave an intro of my new membership on here and received some warm welcomes; I thank you all for that. I also was asked to post my results in the hunt for the receiver I was to end up with, so, here are the results. Again, this info is JMHO and should be taken as just that.
Speakers:
I got the speakers I wanted (TSi500 Cherry) Not the greatest speakers I have ever saw or heard, but, they fit the room, budget (bought refurbs dirrect from polk), they fit my listening taste, so they are keepers and I like them and they make me happy.
Recevier/Amp:
I tried a fair number of receivers/ amps in the last few weeks. Marantz, denon, Harman/Kardon, Mc. a few versions of each, new and vintage. Settled for a factory refurbished Harman/Kardon HK-3480 for the main source. Again, not amazing, but fits the requirments with in budget, looks good, sounds nice, again, Happy. (lucky me, my father in law is a collector, so I had a large selection of demo units to try out )
CD Player:
I looked high and low for something I liked, nothing caught my intrest. On a suggestion from a friend, I looked at DVD players; I have never liked the way DVD players would show time and track when playing CDs, the information on the front display was limited at best, but I did find one that did what I wanted; another Harman/Kardon DVD38, and yep, factory refurb, $40 shipped... couldn't go wrong on that. Once again, Happy. One bonus is that is matches the receiver perfectly.
The TT
Still in search of one, but I found a place to get factory refurb regas, we will see if it pans out or not. Again, just looking for a budget type, not great, just lower mid grade.
So, for the budget my wife and I agreed on prior to this investment in the audio hooby, I came in way below budget; We agreed on no more than $4000 tops, I came in at $750 : Well, I still need a few bucks for the future TT but all in all, not bad.
The thing is, it sound as good to me as the system we listened to at the audio shop that was at the top of our budget, so very happy all the way around. It took a few days, and several times I almost let my lust for something cool and shinny break the budget, but with some will power and common sense it all came together in the end.
So there it is, kind of a follow up to my intro post and an intro to my cheap system.
Cheers
Brian
