Everyone,

I spent some time in September moving from the restrictive confines of Aniak by floating downriver 150 miles to that place that shall remain unnamed. (If you must know, its Bethel, commonly referred to as 'Paris on the Kuskokwim. Why I am not sure.)

Anyhow, my recently purchased 1C Studios came along for the ride and I have been able to incorporate them into the mix. My Monitor 10's have been put in the closet after performing a yeoman's duty for the last 23 years.

Initial impressions would be;

Much bigger then the 10's. Duh.
Bass output that scares the neighbors.
Size matched to my 1000p center channel.
Can load the living room easily, so the amp is much happier not having to push so hard.

I also keep wondering what the sounds I am hearing are, since the speakers are in front of me, not to the side. :D

I was wondering, after reading as many threads as I could find, is the RDO-194 the replacement tweeter? I am going to order four of the buggers so I want to be sure. If I read correctly, the TL option is not in the books for these so the only option is the 194.
I have the list for the X-over rebuilds but when I priced it I almost fainted. At this point I will be doing tweeter upgrade only and waiting for x-over surgery at a later date. Maybe after Powerball officials call me to let me know I won.

On a side note: They fell in my lap in Snow's country and I think I may have stole them from him. $250 for the pair with the interconnect. Fabric is a little rough but serviceable.

I finally have SDA's in the house.

Happy Trails,
Nathan

The 1C's are my favorite SDA's for sure. Well the 2.3's are sweet too, but wee bit big!
    Enjoy.
    Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

Congrats on your newly acquired SDA's!

Btw, the cost of 4 RD0's is about the same as the cost for an x-over redo (for the parts I picked). I think I'll be doing the x-over makeover as opposed to the RD0 replacement, and don't forget to add some dynamat and mortite caulk in place of the stock gaskets!

Hi Nathan I hope you like it in Bethel, and no you didnt steal them from me I had asked about them in a thread here and was told they were a deal but I passed on them after I was told that they wouldndt sonically match my 1.2TL's. After I had talked to the seller on the phone I sent you a PM and or an email thinking you might want me to grab them for you but was pleasantly surprised to find out you had allready snagged them :)

I hope you enjoy these I assume they would sound very similar to the original SRS which isnt a bad thing.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Thanks everyone. I am thoroughly enjoying them as they are, but would like to make sure that they are the best that they can be.
Talking to someone far more in the know then I am about TL'ing them. We will see.
Yes the purchase of tweeters and xo parts make them a far more expensive proposition.
But hey, President Obama says we all have to do our part for the economy. And who am i to argue?
Thanks to everyone who lit the fires to revisit these. It sure has been fun so far.

194s are correct. I will be doing my XOs soon. Already working with Jeff at Sonic. You are right that it is not cheap. I paid $300 for my one owner 1Cs in oak. Tweet upgrades $200, spikes another $125 and now the Xos are knocking on $300. Not hard to have a grand in them.

I also suggest spiking those 1Cs, nice upgrade.

Chances are if you do the X-over mod first and leave the sl2000's in place you'll most likely want to poke your ears out with an ice pick. If you can't do both at once I highly recommend the RD0's first then X-over's.

I did the opposite with my 5B's and the sl2000's just about put me out of the room w/the newer, nicer crossover parts. Within a week I had ordered the RD0's to go with the X-over refresh.

    Just a thought

Congrats on the 1C's,, H9 is right about the crossover----rdo's,,, if you can't do it all,,get the tweeters First,,your ears will thank you,,and when you do upgrade,if you go the way I did,,it's easy to have 400-500 dollars in upgrades,in addition to the speaker cost,,,BUT,, where/what can you get for that money that gives you the sound/performance that the upgraded 1C's do? Good luck on your journey, most of all---enjoy.:)

Vijayl, Yes Polk directly is the way to go with replacement tweeters.
Let them know you are a member and you get a discount, I believe $48.00 a piece is still the going rate on them.
I am enroute to Germany for some much needed R&R so will be responding as I can. When I get back I will shoot you the list of parts as it is at home, which is far far away right now.
    Everyone else, take care.
