Wheredo you buy your cds?

Well, after going through my cd collection after moving into the new place, it seems that along the way, 30 or so of my cds have been misplaced. (Or more likely stolen.)
I'm sick of paying $20 a cd at Best Buy or FYE or wherever. And now it seems that BMG is gone.
Where do you all buy your cds? I've been wanting to expand my collection as of late anyways.... Apparently BMG's replacement is www.yourmusic.com which advertises every cd at $6.99 w/ free shipping. Not bad. But can we do better?
The used section of Amazon looks REALLY promising at first glance. Then you factor in the $3.00 shipping fee for pretty much every cd, and you end up paying on average $6.18 per cd shipped (average of 20 cds that i picked out that i needed.) and they're used.
Does anyone have any secrets they'd be willing to share? I could easily make a list of 200 cds that i want to purchase in the next year, and at $7 apiece, that's a bit of a bitter pill to swallow. I know it's worth it, but i'm all about saving money, hence my haphazard 2 channel rig.
Thanks!

I usually buy my music off of Amazon, your right fye and the mall stores are just too damn expensive. we have a local store here called Birdland Music, they deal with everything from Johnny Cash to johnny crash. Ive found some import stuff their, some expensive, some not. Believe it or not Ive found some good stuff at the local thrift stores as well.Polk Audio Surround Bar 360

There are two pretty decent privately owned record stores here. They have some great used stuff on the cheap. I normally peruse the vinyl though.

Amazon for most since I have their 2 day shipping deal. Yourmusic.com since $7 with no tax and no shipping isn't bad. Their selection shrunk a lot the last few years. Occasionally new releases at Target or Walmart if I happen to be there for something else.
Ebay for imports, or Amazon.co.uk since the currency conversion isn't too bad now. -

Amazon, eBay, used CD/LP stores for normal stuff. Elusive Disc, Acoustic Sounds, and MusicDirect for MoFi and other specialty stuff. If you find good sellers on eBay you can get purchases combined for less shipping cost. I have one music seller on eBay that just holds my purchases until I get a few of his items and then they ship them out.DKG999

I think i'm just going to go with Amazon.... is there any membership packages that let you save on that stupid $3 shipping charge per cd?
What i like about amazon is that it's easy to find some of the rarer LP/compilations that i've been wanting for years.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Amazon is where I do 90% of my CD shopping. If you're primarily interested in used copies, then I don't believe there is any thing you can sign up for to save on shipping. If you're interested in buying new and don't always want to build up an order for $25, you can open an Amazon Prime account which gives you free 2-day shipping for an item of any price. I forget what the rate is. Once they sent me a free 3-month Prime trial and it was mighty nice, especially when certain CDs went on sale for 6.99 or 7.99.
But I don't order enough to justify a Prime account now. What I usually do is put all of my potential buys in my "save for later" shopping cart which also indicates the lowest used price for said item when you open your shopping cart. I usually scan this quickly once or twice a day to see if any particularly low prices for CDs listed as "used/like new" have become available.2 Ch.

To be totally honest, 90% of my Cds come from HMV. That sounds so old school to be buying music from brick and mortar locations, but the mega store they have here has everything I want and they are usually pretty competitive by way of pricing. I just put what I want on my Christmas, Birthday, and Anniversary lists.....and since I'm sooo hard to buy for I usually get what I ask for...
Otherwise I usually buy from Amazon, I haven't been disapointed yet.

I agree, but you have to be careful when ordering SACD's from the zon. I've had a couple issues when sellers have sent me standard redbooks instead.
I've learned to email first and ask sellers to confirm the format prior to placing an order. I've saved myself from some hassles doing so.
Thats a good point. I too am usually in the habit of e-mailing Marketplace sellers before I hit the "submit order" button, even though I'm buying redbooks not SACDs. This is because learned early on that there can be a very liberal definition of the term "Used / Like New." If they don't bother to respond, I'll look elsewhere.2 Ch.

I buy from my local privately owned music store whenever possible, good people.
I also love to buy from Music Direct, they always send my selection(s) well wrapped with heavy paper in a sturdy box, they ship that day or the next at the latest for in stock items, real quick UPS shipping for $6.00 and they automatically send an email with the tracking info. Can't beat that.
For OOP and hard to find items, eBay has served me well.
I never buy from Amazon.Does anyone have any secrets they'd be willing to share?
Yeah, don't be so cheap. $20.00 for a CD is a freaking bargain for something that will bring you joy for a lifetime.Political Correctness'.........defined

It's not a "cheap" thing... it's a "i'm poor but there's a crap ton of music that i want" thing. And also that i'm trying to replace a BUNCH of cds that i already paid $20 apiece for without paying the same amount again.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Very few SACD's from Amazon Canada, but some good deals at times. You need to price shop. Also, free shipping over $39 makes it worth the trip from time to time.Michael

Another thing I've done is buy direct from the record label.
If a local store doesn't carry something I want and it's limited or I'm impatient, I'll look up the label and place an order.
I'd rather give the mark-up directly to the label than to BucksBuy or Geniri-mart...
