Need Helps with MS Office software

The new laptop I got came with Windows Office 2007 trial for 60 days. During the initial setup I refused to install the Office 2007. There is an icon on the desktop for me to installing Office 2007.

I don’t want this Office 2007 and would like to install Office 2003 instead. Can I just install Office 2003 or do I need to uninstall Office 2007 first? If I have to uninstall Office 2007, how do I do it (since I can’t find it in the Add or Remove programs)?

Thanks.

You'll have less headaches if you remove Office 07 (if it is actually installed). If it is installed, use add/remove programs. If you don't see anything in add/remove, then it is not installed and you can just track down where the install files are (right click-properties on the install icon) and delete them manually.

i'm still using MS Office XP at home and MS Office 2003 on my work laptop. I use Excel a lot and I don't use the mouse. I use keyboard with shortcuts and 2007 don't have the same shortcuts. When efficiency is much more important to me, I can forgo the good look of 2007. There are some nice improvements though (like Excel having 1,000,000 rows and not 65,000 rows) but I usually only use up to 40,000 rows anyway so it doesn't matter to me.

Well if he owns 2003 already it beats paying for 2007.

Of course, smart people just use OpenOffice for free :)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I don't like the new versions of Office either. Microsoft changes the interface and adds a few minor functionality improvements and touts a huge upgrade. Sometimes your VB code no longer runs.

Say, I've heard of open office. Does it offer a Visual Basic programming environment similar to MS Office?

In Vista, you go into my computer, then you should see an uninstall or change program tab. If the Office 07 is installed, you could remove it there.

I tried OpenOffice, didn't like it. Ponied up for Office 2007. If you just need a basic package it's fine, if you use MS Office extensively, Open office will annoy you IMHO.

Open Oflfice rocks! I especially love the phone calls after you email someone the file and they can't open it.

"So what is it. Exactly. . . uh huh. . . are you like mad at me. . . no-no, I understand. . . well, I don't really need it that bad. . . just pop it in the mail. . . . do you want it back?"

No smart people get MS Office for free. MS Office is still much more powerful for power users.

Because there haven't been any significant improvements in the software since then! I'm still using 2003 Office and I plan on using it until it is no longer compatible with Windows. It works great with Windows 7. I also use older versions of Nero (still work great), older versions of Photoshop (still work great), etc, etc.

Most software only gets more bloated as new editions come out.

MS Office 2003 is still my standard, and also in the office. It works great.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Thanks for all your helps. There were actually several Office 2007 items in the add/remove programs. They are now all uninstalled and Office 2003 is installed.

I have both Office 2007 and 2003 softwares. I have tried learning to like Office 2007 but could not do it (sorry). I know my ways around 2003 better.

Office '07 doesn't recognize ANY older .dbf files. Some of the older packaging software here at work still requires .dbf files to operate.

Once you get MSDN, microsoft software seems very small in selection. I rarely download from it anymore since my employer is a MS Platinum partner (I believe all others are gold/silver)

Several reasons really, and the one biggest reason is familiarity. I know people who still use Lotus 1-2-3 and whenever they get a new computer they call me in to install it. :)

I have tried to get people switch to OpenOffice since it's all, and more, than they actually need but they are familiar with the way Office works. Sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks no matter how easy it is.
