NFL Week 3 is in the bag

How'd your team do?

I missed this last week 'cause I was busier than a one armed paper hanger. Doesn't matter, the Cowboys stunk up the joint. They were honestly the better defensive team because the Giants couldn't get anything on the run. But the secondary let them down with coverage. They did well enough though that they should have won that game. But Romo blew it. Hands down, he blew it. The offense was absolutely unproductive. I will say though that the Giants pass protection for Manning is superb. Nobody touched him the whole game. That was against a ruthless defensive line from Dallas too.

Last night that game started out ugly. I don't know what happened at halftime but that was a different team that came back out to the field. The defense shutdown the Panthers and harassed Delhomme the rest of the night. They finally capitalized on turnovers and kept penalties to a minimum (for the Cowboys). If the Cowboys had played the past 10 quarters like they did the last two, they would be 3-0 and leaving a wake of destruction and injured opponents behind them.

But the Dallas defense. I was waiting to see how they did against the Giants before passing judgment and they dropped the ball on pass coverage but they held Brandon Jacobs, arguably one of the best running backs in the game today to 58 yards on the ground even with the G-Men's outstanding O-line. The Giants only gain 97 total yards on the ground against them. In the air though, Manning destroyed them for a 330 yard game. But the secondary finally woke up halfway through the game last night and Delhomme only had 220 yards passing with 2 picks and 3 sacks I think it was? Carolina's run game was stifled with only 74 yards with one run for a loss for a total of 73 yards.

If Dallas's D can keep it up, that is one nasty defense. They can keep the other team from scoring. The weak link is on the other side. Romo needs to step up consistently. He has an arsenal full of weapons and a stone wall of an offensive line. They run routes accurately and bail him out constantly. There is no reason that offense should be that unproductive. I thought last year it was Jason Garrett's fault at offensive coordinator for the unsuccessful offense. It's not. His play calling is spot on and you can see it now that Owens isn't there being a dick. The problem is Romo's inability to stay consistent and complete plays. He seems to panic alot in the pocket and moves around alot. Somebody has to get that kid back down to Earth and playing football.

So how'd your team do? I'd have more but all I saw on Sunday was the Seahawks game and not even all of it. But I was told it was mostly a suckfest but I couldn't get passed those uniforms! What crackhead thought those colors would look good? I did like the Jets throwback uniforms though. Much, much better than the green/white they have now. Although the gold could be a bit brighter so you can see names and numbers.

Ugh... looks like my Falcons were brought back down to earth. Brady looked shaky and STILL dominated in the second half. Though I wonder how the game would have gone if they hadn't called offensive pass interference on Jenkins for the TD. The Pats already looked flustered on the offensive side.

My Colts are doing well this year, much better start than last year. They may wanna think about getting a running game if they're going to go anywhere in the playoffs, but it's still early and Donald Brown right now looks like a much better back than Joseph Adai.

My Giants are also doing well. Being in Dallas all I heard all week is how "The Cowboys shoulda won that game". You can look at stats or whatever and draw your own conclusion, but the Giants are a very disciplined team and a team like that is oging to make you pay for your mistakes. The Cowboys outplayed the Giants in some aspects of the game, but the only one that counts is the final score.

Wow, my 49ers are 2-1 and really just a freak 50 yard pass by Favre away from being 3-0. He only completes that pass maybe 1 or 2 times out of 100, this just happened to be one of those. I'm not sure what the 49ers were thinking on defense, the lapse in coverage due to the scheme was inexcusable - this wasn't just one guy making a really bad play, that whole scheme was the wrong defense to be in. Mike is doing a really good job with that team though, glad to see they kept him around. With the way Arizona and Seattle are playing right now, the Niners may actually have a chance to win that division - I guarantee you NOBODY would have predicted that a month ago.

I think the manner in which the Vikings won that game showed that the are now a real football team and a legitimate threat to do some damage in the playoffs. I won't go so far as to say SUPER- BOWL CHAMPS, but after this past week I like their chances. Monday Nite will be very telling as to what my Purple People Eaters are all about. I have the beer in the fridge and am planning party nite right now.

My best friend is a Niners fan and that loss has him in mourning. With the Rams next week, you guys could have very easily been 4-0.

You're smoking crack. The Vikings got stone cold lucky. The 49'ers out played them. A freak, hail-mary pass to the back of the endzone does not show any kind of skill, talent or aptitude. It just shows desperation. The only talent there was the wide-out's ability to actually get both feet inbounds. Any schmuck can throw a football to the back of the endzone and pray one of the 3 slant patterns will be there to pick up the play.

The Cowboys shouldn't have won that game. They deserved that loss. I don't think they played anywhere near their full potential but I do think they deserved it. The Cowboys should have won that game in the respect that they are a much better team than they have shown lately. Evidence of that was the 2nd half of last nights game. The Cowboys have a team that could be capable of getting to the Super Bowl but it's likely they won't get there because they don't stay consistent. How do they fix that? I dunno. Maybe beatings? Who knows. You can give a man the tools to build a house but if he doesn't know the first thing about carpentry, you're wasting your time. Everybody is starting to wonder how much Romo really knows about "carpentry".

The Cowboys have an INCREDIBLE amount of talent, probably the most in the league on one team. We'll never know, but I think that if Jones had subsided just a bit and Parcels was still the man on that team Dallas would have another super bowl in their hands.

Can't argue against that. I think letting Parcells go in favor of crybabies like Owens and "Pacman" was a mistake. Well, "Pacman" wasn't that much of a crybaby, just stupid.

I grant you there was some luck involved, but that ball was perfectly thrown to a receiver that made a stellar grab, and it was thrown by a guy recognized as being the master of the two minute drill. The attitude of Vikings teams past was GAME-OVER in that scenario. The team that played Sunday beleived they had a shot to win, and played with a belief in themselves and their quarterback. That was no hail-mary, rather a defining moment for the Vikings as a football team. But then I am just a Viking fan, so what do I know.:D

The Vikings are looking good. Great run D, good QB, and the best RB in the game. I guess the Vikings are lucky they can outscore the 49'ers.

I still like my Cowboys however they will hand Denver their first loss of the season.

    so what do I know.:D

Not much apparently. You need to go back and look at that game. That play especially. Favre threw the ball just out of bounds. The ball was not perfectly caught, the receiver had to dive for it. If he came down where the ball was thrown, he was out of bounds. The receiver's prescience of mind led him to drag his feet to stay in bounds even though the ball was a good 4 feet out at that point.

At the start of the play, the Vikings sent everyone to the back of the endzone. The point of such a play is to get so many people back there and running in to each other and in front of each other that it becomes a mad grab for the ball and your team can capitalize on the confusion of the opposite team to come up with it. It's a desperation play, not a skill play. "Master of the two minute drill" or not, it was dumb luck in a game that the Vikings probably should have blown wide open but didn't.

We'll see the level of suck that the Vikings have next week against the Packers who seem to be improving daily. In the mean time you should take your purple colored glasses off and stop riding the Vikings jock because at this point, I think they will be lucky to get the wild card slot. That's mainly because the Bears and Packers are standing in the way. Besides, who have the Vikings played? Two of the worst teams in football and they beat San Fran by the skin of their teeth. Chicago lost to Green Bay in a slobberknocker of a brawl and then went and spanked the defending SB champs. After that they ate the Seahawks for dinner. Green Bay beat the Bears and then lost to the Bengals who arguably played the best game they have played in 5 years last week. Then they stomped a mud-hole in St, Louis. If you think the Vikings are anywhere because of anything other than a cake schedule so far and dumb luck, you're delusional.

The Seahawks need to hire new conditioning coaches and new trainers. How can we have 11-13 starters injured every year. This is rediculous. We have one of the best state of the art training facilities and yet have the most starters out in the league.

Even though we lost DA BEARS STILL SUCK.

Ha, you still may end up only winning 3 games all year. You beat the Bengals on a fluke play that you'd have a hard time recreating even under ideal circumstances. You haven't played anyone else, so hard to judt off that.

I know you can only beat who you're playing at the time, but its certainly hard to draw any conclusions based on the last 3 weeks. Let's talk again in 3 more weeks and see where things stand.

    My Bengals did pretty well.
I heard a lot of this type of **** from Steelers fans:
"The Steelers lost it themselves; they made too many mistakes... Blah, blah, blah."

For anyone that decides on that logic, if both teams played perfectly, neither would win.

Well, Cincinnati is 2-1 and almost 3-0 with wins over GB and Pit. I'm happy with 2-1, but lets not start putting them in the playoffs yet. Neither Pittsburgh or Cincinnati played well in that game on Sunday. The Bengals came together on the last drive to win that game (and that was great), but if the Steelers would have taken advanatage of some of the many opportunities they had, the final would have been closer to 30-23 Pittsburgh. One prediction that I believe has about a 99% chance of coming true though: I will have no fingernails left by the end of the season if I continue to watch every Bengals game.

Going by your logic, who has GB beaten? Chicago and St Louis, not exactly something to brag about either. Rams are 0-3 and Chicago has beaten two 1-2 teams. Granted the other team was Pittsburgh but their only win of the season is against a 0-3 team by 3 points.

So far so good, lets wait what happens in the next few weeks. Saints are looking quite good, I do have to say that.

Always been a Patriots fan winning or loosing. Raining or snowing. Worst team Dolphins. Tried to like them, but Dolphins fans suck. They leave the games early if their team is loosing. I did however love watching the Jets play them. Jets fans are hardcore, and Dolphins fans well... suck. LOL it was like a big party every time the Dolphins could make it ten yards.
