You come into work on Monday morning and there is a For Sale/Lease sign posted on your building. Yep ladies and gents, that's what I seen when I pulled up in the parking lot this morning. In October it will be exactly one year that we had our hours cut back to 32/week. It's been a really rough year just trying to make ends meet with cut backs and all and all of us in the office were hoping that things would turn around here soon but after pulling in the parking lot this morning, doesn't look like it's gonna happen. The boss's aren't even in the office this week so NO ONE in the office knows whats going on. We're not sure if they are just trying to unload the monthly mortgage on this $2 million dollar building or if they are planning on shutting the doors for good, no one knows.

Roughly this time last year we were the lead engineering firm in the Fredericksburg area and had 32 people employed and within 8 months we are down to 12 employees now. Unfortunately, in my line of work, all engineering firms in the area are closing the doors so finding a job right now close to home is gonna be hard. My brother was laid off from the same company I'm employed with back in February and he has still had no luck finding a job, as a matter of fact, his house was just foreclosed on and found out Friday that he has 30 days after October 7th to move out.

Not exactly sure whats going on in the economy here lately other than it SUCKS a$$ but I sure hope things turn around soon. Thanks for listening.

My sincere and deepest prayers go out to you and your family. I have been looking for work since last December, but thankfully I reduced my financial commitments to fit within what I get from unemployment. It has been very tough, but hopefully that stimulus package kicks in soon.

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear of this. Unfortunately, this is becoming commonplace rather than the norm. 2 years ago, our household was pulling in six very nice figures. Now, my wife is unemployed. Work for my business is close to non-existent and the work that is available is hard to collect payment from. In our case, we have a newborn.

Yeah, it sucks. Sucks REAL bad, especially since we had around 20K in savings at the beginning to make it through the "rough" times. That's long gone. Best of luck to ya' bro'.

Sorry to hear bro, best of luck to you.

I got out of the Civil Engineering industry after a 10 year run almost 4 years ago and went back to Trader Joe's management. Best move I've ever made. I'll never go back to engineering, it's just too unstable of an industry. People need to eat, TJ's is a great company and has a much better chance of making it though a rough economy then engineering.

Again, best of luck in the job hunt.

Times are hard right now and I don't see any end in sight. I have a good job but who knows when layoffs or cut backs are going to happen. Good luck to you. Hang in there. That's a pretty $h!ty way to find out. Here's hoping they are just going to relocate for some cheaper rent. It's a very crappy job market right now just about everywhere, every field. One position and 50 over qualified and 100 qualified people trying to land it. Starting over at this point in time of my life was not what I had planned, but I'm certainly not alone! I'm one of the lucky ones, family has good health, house is paid off, not carrying a lot of dept, great wife so who knows this might be the best thing to happen to me.

Hoping for the best for you, stay positive and good luck

That really sucks. Hopefully you are not sitting there working for free right now if you know what I mean.

I had that happen to me once. Worked for a sinking ship restaurant and got screwed out of pay for the last couple weeks. Didn't realize how bad it was until we showed up one day and the doors were locked and nobody could get in.

I hope that is not the case for you. Good luck.

Don't you and I know that one real well. Our company is being split up
and sold off, with about 40% losing their jobs upfront. The company
was already down 70% in size from where it was 9 years ago.

I don't see where the predictions of a "jobless" recovery come from,
other than just bullsh*t spewing forth from the mouths of so called

Hang in there, if you're good at what you do, something will turn up.

I know I'm kinda in a crappy situation myself, my business is down 40% from last year and the slow season is on its way. I usually have enough in the bank to get through the winter but this year is a different story, I'm not sure whats going to happen and the bad thing is that I have no way of going out and getting more business because I contract to a big lumber store in the midwest so whats there is there. I really dont want to go out and look for a second job because I never know what is going to happen from day to day. Best of luck to ya grim keep us posted.

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers guys, I know I can always come here for support. The next couple of weeks I'm gonna be hard at it trying to land a more stable career so just keep your fingers crossed. You know, the biggest issue I have with the whole situation is the boss's won't even talk with us about what is going on. Even prior to finding the sign in the front yard yesterday it seems no one will keep us in the loop. The way this company is structured is we have the president, vice president and an associate which is in for 20%. When the associate came in yesterday he had no idea as to what was going on, he didn't even know. All in all, whether they plan on unloading the mortgage or closing the doors for good, I'm gonna be working on getting the hell out of here.

Rob the reason they won't tell you until it's a done deal, is if you know, you will do exactly as your doing looking for a new job!

They don't want YOU to leave THEM hanging! This is standard procedure with just about all businesses.

    Good luck with your search.

And the punches keep coming. Last night the wife and I had to have our 12 year old Chow (a.k.a. Ace) put down. About three weeks ago we noticed he had a knot on the right side of his face which we've seen many times before. Ace was known for catching bee's and always getting stung inside his mouth. Well over the weekend we noticed the knot which we thought was swelling wasn't going down so we scheduled him an appointment with our vet with an already tight income. Well low and behold it ended up being a tumor that apparently was beginning to take over the whole right side of his face as well as his neck. It was a pretty easy decision to have him put down for the simple fact that we didn't want him to suffer but still feel really **** that we didn't catch it sooner, just hard to see anything on a chow with all the damn hair they have. The wife and kids are doing fine with the situation but still it was really hard for the wife to have to deal with putting him down and staying with him. She said all way up to the end, he was gonna protect my wife, he wouldn't let the doctor come anywhere near her. Thanks for being such a loyal companion Ace and glade your in a better place now.
