I have recently acquired a Rotel RB-1090 amp.Well it should be on it's way sometime this week. I was thinking about making a 2 channel rig as i currently do not have one just two HT setups.
So this is going to be the amp i use.
380x2 @ 8ohms
700x2 @ 4ohms

If you had this particular amp what speakers would you pair with it to take advantage of the 700watt output at 4ohms?
Budget i would like to stay below 4k.
Just curious again about what you guys think.
Thanks.:)

    SDA's

Don't the SDA's require a fairly large room? I guess i should have mentioned room size in my original post.
The setup would be going into a 11.5x12x9 room. SDA too much speaker? Or just enough.

More room is always better but the smaller SDA's should sound great

    SDA 1C's
    SDA 2B's
    SDA 3.1tls
    SDA CRS+ (bookshelf)

My basement room is only 16x14 and all four above sounded great

With that budget, I would buy all of the following (used) and swap them around (but then I'm a speaker ****.....)

    -Magnepan MMG's
-Dynaudio Contour 1.3 MkII or 1.8 MkII
    -Gallo Reference 3.1

Yeah i think i'm going to have to get just one, maybe two sets. I already have 3 different subs coming so i can see which one i like most with the LSI's....if i start buying a bunch of speaker sets "just to see" i may get in trouble with the better half lol.

Examples of ribbon speakers are Carver ALIII's and Carver Amazing Loud Speakers. They have 48 to 60 inch ribbons and some cone 10 to 12 inch speakers to give you base. Here is a pic of my ALIII's when I was at Carverfest. They are the two tall ones.

Well, I can tell you, that is one heck of an amp. It is a great match for SDA's because it has gobs of power, and it is a common ground design. When I hooked mine up to the smaller SDA 2A's that I had, it really woke them up, and was able to drive them to some serious SPL's. For the size of your room, I'll have to 2nd what Lee said, and suggest trying a pair of the "smaller" SDA's. My favorite out of that group would be the SDA 1C's. You can get a pair of those, do all the mods in the book, and have a lot of your $4K left over. Have Fun!

I used to have RB-1090 and it's very fine amp. But I would not use with Ribbon (Planar) Types (speaking from personal experience). Rotel built-in protection does not like low impedance load down to 2 ohms. I also noticed the amp tends to run hot so better to run it in wide open space. I think this amp may be better suited with Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers (not as low impedance load as in the Carver Plats or ALIIIs).
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

Yeah i not ruled out the SDA's for sure. Just might take me a little time to find a pair, not that i'm in a hurry or anything.;)
