Film director Roman Polanski is behind bars and awaiting extradition to the U.S. for a 1977 case, in which he had sex with a 13 year old girl. Will be interesting to see if the U.S. justice department still wants this guy.

Yes but if it was a woman having sex with a 13 year old boy she would have been free to go a long time ago.

He would have be free a long time ago too if he had been man enough to stay and face the music, but the cowardly dog ran instead!

Yeah, in the end I don't care that he escaped the Holocaust while his Mom was killed; I don't care that his wife was horribly murdered by a bunch of Manson freaks; I don't care that he's been living in a **** hole like France for the last 30 years. Because, he drugged a 13 year old girl then sodomized her among other things. He's trash.

Precisely. None of that has ANYTHING to do with the fact that he is a lowlife rapist & pedophile!

Agreed. Any of his personal accomplishments or past tragedy, certainly takes a BIG backseat to the horror he perpetrated on that young, innocent girl at the time. Lets see how popular he's gonna be in the clink. Dirtbag.

I'm NOT repeat NOT defending him, but hasn't the statue of limitations run out?

Not for this kind of crime. The charges have already been brought.

He plead guilty and fled before sentencing. I am sure some of his friends in hollywood will make some calls to the current administration and polanski wont serve a day in jail. Maybe a night in the Lincoln bedroom even.

If I were a judge, I'd go light too. . . one day and evening with the general population at any federal prison or state penitentiary.

The girls parents ought to be brought to trial also for allowing a child to be left alone with an adult while in a modeling session.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Also, its irrelevant that the girl settled privately with Polanski. His time is owed to the People, not the girl.

Her parents actually knew he had a thing for really young girls and encouraged her to hang with him in order to "further her career". They should have gone to jail too. Some people will do anything for a buck. Makes me want to vomit.

The woman, now 40 something, has stated that she doesn't want him in jail. That it's in the past and time to move on.

According to the French, we are the ugly Americans again...
Polanski was "thrown to the lions," said French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand. "In the same way that there is a generous America that we like, there is also a SCARY America that has just shown its face."

Too much time, money and effort will be spent on an issue that even the victim wants to drop. Chances are he will never spend another day in an American jail. It really is time to move on to things that really matter. I want to save any ammunition with the French and Polish and Swiss Govts for the terrorist that we need/want extradited to the US.

As SS has said, it's irrelevant about what the woman wants. He pleaded guilty and was going to go to jail & chickened out & ran.

"The director pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse in 1977, but fled to France on the day of his sentencing in 1978, aware the judge planned renege on the agreement and sentence him to more prison time."

This is no different than a convict who breaks out of jail who gets captured years later. They send his **** back to jail to finish out his sentence + more for breaking out in the first place.
