Upgrade source?

I have a harmon kardon hk3480 and a pair of rti8's. My source is a Sony DVP-NS575P. If i were to upgrade the source to lets say a 2 or 300 dollar cd player, would I be getting a day and night difference? I am using the DAC in the sony via analog connection.

    Try a coax or optical connection to your receiver and see if things improve. The DACS in the HK may be notably better.

    If not, time to upgrade.

    cant...there are no digital connections on the receiver at all. no coax, no optical

    Get a solid DAC, or a tube CDP.

    If there an digital output on the CDP use an external DAC! Only cheap DAC I know of that is good is the Entech it is better that most in CDP's.
