carver ribbon repair
The magnets in my carver ribbon speakers became unglued and dislodged and ripped the ribbons. Does anyone know who can repair them relatively inexpensively?

Dave and James Sauter are the only ones that repair them. There is another company that offers the ribbons at a cheaper price, but it comes with a sacrifice in the sound. I have not heard of ANY other source for ribbons or ribbon repair unless you order straight from the manufacturer of the ribbons in which case there is a minimum order of 300 or so feet of ribbon. I can guarantee you that won't be cheap.
Do you know where to contact the Sauters?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
No, How do I get ahold of the Sauters?

Ah, thanks Tom. I have an alternate# for them if you can not reach them at that number. Currently Dave is in Florida and not New York and I can't for the life of me remember if that's his house# or his cell#. Anyhoo, LMK if you can not get a hold of them.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? ^^^Ah, that's the one that comes at a sacrifice of sound. Thanks, I couldn't remember the name. They sell the ribbon and enclosure but they do not repair, FYI.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? I would stay away form the parts express ribbon. I had a long talk with Dave Sauter last weekend about ribbons and rebuilding is the best way to go. Though it is not cheep at all to get ribbons fixed. Material is not cheep and it takes hours of work to get them done right.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

I had a set of the silvers when they were last being made. When a ribbon failed I thought how hard could it be to take these apart and replace a ribbon? Damn I wouldn't recommend going there. I got a replacement ribbon from the warranty warehouse and my room mate and I did get it by compressing from one end and starting the bolts to help pull the two sides together. The fix worked but I would not try it again. You aren't done with wire and ready for upgrades and other tweaks until you are totally done with wire.

With the power of those magnets, you can break your finger in a snap. No pun intended.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Only one person redoes them. His name is James Sauter and he can be found at the CarverAudio Forum. His username is ToyMaker. Cost is 1100 not including shipping both ways to rebuild a set."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."
