Who Are You?

When I met up with George Grand this weekend, he said that I should post something about myself since people may find it interesting. I was looking for a thread that people who tell what they do, and a few personal things, but couldn't find one, so I figured I start one. Feel free to leave some info about your background, what you do, who you are etc.

You may find it interesting that I'm a professional musician and singer. I graduated college in 2001 with my degree in voice and education. I currently teach music to middle school and high school aged singers in New Jersey and have a pretty active singing life. I do concerts, guest appearances here and there in the South Jersey, Philadelphia, Deleware area. I've cut back on that lately, because one of my big interests is conducting. When someone asks what I want to be when I grow up, I usually answer with, "Leonard Bernstein", who some may know as the most famous American conductor, composer of classical and broadway music, and fantastic educator. If you ever have any questions about classical music, especially those of you looking for the best recordings to listen to on your kick butt systems, feel free to shoot me a PM. I specialize in Choral/Orchestral works, but have a pretty vast knowledge of opera, symphonic works, piano sonatas/concertos, etc. I'm on a few recordings...one of them won a Grammy (Not for the actual singing, but for the production and editing...it's funny because it almost makes it sound like it was a bad recording that they turned into something good). I am not an LP guy...or I should say that I would be if I had the money, but I do own TONS of classical LP's because I used to listen in college, and loved the Princeton Record Exchange, where you could find almost ANYTHING you were looking for.

I look forward to hearing a bit about all of you.

Very cool James, Im a senior service tech for the Nations leading ATM manufacturer, (not hard to figure that one out) Ive been servicing ATM's top to bottom for 20 years along with financial institutions security systems including vault, drve-thru and cctv systems. Married with 3 kids. Love the home theater side of things, as soon as my oldest moves out and free's up a room, I just may have to dabble in the 2 channel stuff.

Interesting thread. Currently I am on injured leave from my job as a vinyl decking installer. I put a nail in my wrist as some of you may remember. But I have also been a computer service tech, cable internet installer, journeyman ironworker (yes, high steel), automotive mechanic, built in vacuum installer, home insulator, and forestry worker. Of all those the vinyl decking pays the best (piece work). The Ironworking was the most thrilling. And the forestry worker the most fun. I enjoyed the computer tech work the most but it paid really crappy. I'm a single dad of a 14 year old boy. I love two channel and multichannel audio. I play slopitch softball with some gorgeous women and a few average guys. I own 1273 rock and jazz LP's which I listen to daily. I drive a 2000 Neon and a '98 GMC Sierra Diesel and I own an '89 IROC which I've owned for 16 years. I was born and raised in British Columbia and lived here all my life because I just can't think of anywhere better to live. I am an addict and abused damn near everything at one time or another. I've lived through two OD's one of which included a heart attack. I've been clean and sober for over 20 years and in fact today September 23 is the 21st anniversary of me putting down dope. The number one thing in my life is my son. Nothing else come before him. Period. That's a little of who I am and what I've done.

Cool thread James, there is a "similar" thread going but I like the idea behind this one too. I am currently serving in the Active Duty Air Force, as I have been for the past 10 years, Nov. 10th will be 11 years. Born and raised (for 22 years) in Connecticut, and am now satationed at Fairchild AFB in Washington state. Been all over the world to places I never thought I would be, some good and some bad. Seen pretty much all 50 states atleast once, and have probably been just around the corner from a lot of you guys and never even knew it. I am married have three amazing kids 17, 16, and 14. I was a SteelWorker/Fabricator before I joined the AF for about 4 years and before that I worked Night shift at a grocery store. Just recently got into audio and am about a year into my investment. Played baseball for about 12 years and am an avid baseball fan to this day, GO YANKEES!!!! Also like football GO GIANTS!!!! I have learned a lot from the guys here, and have made some good friends too. Congrats on the 21 years Kelvin, I'm sure no one is more proud of you than your son.

I'm a musician as well sorta. I am the director of Instrumental Music at St. John's Jesuit High School and the Orchestra Director at St. Ursula Girls Academy (SJJ is all boys btw). I play Alto Sax in a local Big Band on Thursday evenings and sit-in at a jam session twice a month on Saturday evenings. When I can get them, I LOVE playing local musicals because it gives me an opportunity to play clarinet and flute for extended periods of time.

I'm an art director at a small design and advertising agency. According to popular media, I'm rather well off, I smoke too much, drink too much and can't hold a relationship. In real life, I'm poor, I don't smoke, I drink too much and I've been married almost a third of my life.
I like speakers because I've been cursed with bat-ears. I can hear a whispered conversation from way too far away, so I bought a pair of quality headphones. When I could hear a substantial difference, I thought I might be missing out on bigger speakers. After accidentally finding some RTA-11TL's, I was hooked. Now I'm with all of you... Almost all the time.

    My name is Kevin,
I am a Systems Administrator II for Mississippi Public Broadcasting and I sometimes pull duty as audio tech for the tv studio. One show I have worked on that you may be familiar with is "Between the Lions", an award winning children's reading show that is produced here. I also do consulting work on the side. It's the only way I can afford to work for the state as there is not a lot of money in public service work, but I like the job.:)
I was in the the music production business in the late eighties and nineties as an audio engineer. I had a small recording studio and worked as monitor engineer for a couple of rather large sound companies out of New Orleans. I still occasionally do a show.

I am also the father of three wonderful girls and recently became a grandfather for the first time. He's a boy. I'm really enjoying my life these days. :D

My name is John, nobody likes me. They think I'm a jerk. But very few really know anything about me. That's fine.

I was married but not anymore. I'm not a father...yet. I'm a brother. I'm a twin. My twin is also 32 years old. I'm a son. I'm still a grandson and nephew too. I'm a cousin. Several times removed as well. I'm an ex but I'm also a boyfriend. I'm a friend as well. Just recently became an in-law too. I'm not an uncle yet though. I don't have any pets.

I was in the Boy Scouts, still am but not nearly as active as I used to be. I played baseball as a kid. I've built race cars and actually raced them. I've won a race. I've rebuilt an engine. I've programmed computers. I've assembled my own electronics, just for fun. I've built a robot. I play the trumpet. I play the piano too. I can't speak another language but I can read music. I go fishing out of sight of land. I go to movies and concerts. I've won money on horses and in casinos. I've lost money too. I've bailed a friend out of jail. I've picked up a friend on the side of the road in the middle of the night. I've built houses for charity. I've collected food for charity. I broke my truck collecting food for charity. I've planted trees for charity. I've worked a soup line. I drove an ambulance. I was told I saved a life...all I think I did was do the job I volunteered to do. I know someone in a psychiatric hospital. I know someone who tried to kill themselves. I knew someone who was successful. I've given someone the shirt off my back. I still play catch with my dad.

I am a college graduate. At one point, I was a camp counselor, a camp ranger, a baker, a store clerk, a parts counter clerk, a mover, a project manager, a mechanic, a truck driver, an installer, a grounds keeper, a computer repair technician, a webmaster. Right now I'm the best systems admin I know how to be.

I'm a home owner. I have a tractor too! It's green. I have two pick-up trucks. One is real fast, the other is kinda...well...stationary...at the moment. I've owned 7 other cars. I own 9 computers, it's sad, I know. I own a website...well, 3 websites. I have 12 email addresses...I'm not really sure why. I have two cellphones, both are Blackberries, one is for work. I guess that makes me important...or tortured. I only claim the latter.

My head is full of useless trivia that only helps out at parties and on the Internet. I have yet to lose a game of trivial pursuit.

Sometimes I like to do nothing but I hate to be idle. The world is ours to explore. You can see a good deal from your couch but it's not the same as going out in the world and getting the dirt on your hands. I have lived a full life so far, fuller than most and don't plan to stop opening the door to opportunity any time soon.

I am a regulatory analyst for the State of California....some of you in California are actually affected by what I do. Hahahaha....(evil laugh :D) Like most government employees, I am overworked and seriously underpaid. I have a Business Administration degree, but somehow I always end up in jobs involving telecommunications. And no, I've never taken any bribes, although I am open to any offers (just kidding).

I am single....I was almost married earlier this year until my fiancee decided she no longer wanted to marry me. I am still trying to get my engagement ring returned. Oh yes, I met her on a TV dating show and we were together for almost 5 years. I don't know, maybe this is for the better.

I live with my mom because she has Alzheimer's Disease, and therefore, needs help with some of her everyday activities. However, I have an assistant, an Old English Sheepdog named Bogi, who keeps her active physically and mentally. I also have a younger sister.

I drive a 2009 Toyota Corolla S because my commute is over 50 miles each day and gas was almost $5.00/gallon last summer. Perviously, I drove a 2001 Toyota Camry, but it was getting ridiculous needing $60.00 to fill up its gas tank. Otherwise, I also drive a 2005 Toyota Highland....which is really Bogi's personal transportation.

My stereo/home theater are in disarray. I will need to sort things out and clean things up.

JStas--well said-I like your style--maybe I'll use that format for a self written epitaph for myself.

I really can't say who I am or what I do, for your own sake, cuz if I did then somebody would have to ensure that none of you were left around to retell it.;):p

Actually I'm just kidding around--none of what I do really matters in the end as much as my Family does to me- I am a husband and a SUPER PROUD Daddy of two little boys that I LOVE more than life itself and they LOVE me right back :D:cool::D.

That's my life in a nutshell--ah who knows I might open up a bit more later ;).
