Best site for a free blog?

Hey guys and gals, we are going to be breaking ground soon on our new home, and I was thinking about starting a blog or something where friends and family could keep updated on our progress. I would like to be able to post pictures and possibly write short paragraphs detailing the stuff that is going on. Would a blog be the best choice, or a photo sharing site like photobucket or something like that? I really haven't used either of those kinds of sites before, so I am not really sure what would be more appropriate.

I wonder, specifically, if a photo sharing site would allow me to include as much written info as I plan to have, and if a blog would be as easy to have as many pictures as I want to include. Any suggestions? And, I didn't plan on paying for this, I guess I am assuming that whatever way I decide to go there will be a free option. Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

For a blog: www.blogspot.com (uses your google id)
    For pix: www.flickr.com

just embed your pix you upload to flickr in your blog just as you wood on the forums.

Do the blog, and then hot link the photos that you upload to the photo site. Best of both.

If you go with blogspot, you can pretty seamlessly use google's own pic-site, Picassa. Or, you can use Flickr and blogspot, but some of the formatting features are way less intuitive.

Since I'm pretty sure that both Picassa and Flickr only allow for so much space before they start charging, though... It might be worth buying your domain name from GoDaddy and installing Wordpress... You get free hosting for a year with your domain-name purchase, so for like $10 you get a lot of free space and your blog doesn't have any other stupid names in the URL than what you give it yourself! :)

I'm actually trying to get my wife to switch from blogspot to GoDaddy's Wordpress.

? Polk RTA 11TL's (FR and FL)
? Polk TSi200's (RR and RL)
    ? Polk CS10 (Center)
    ? Polk PSW-350
    ? Grado SR-60i Headphones
    ? Fii0 E5 headphone amp
    ? iPod touch (8 gig)
    ? iPod Classic (80 gig)
? Mac Mini (as media server)
    ? xbox 360

I've been running a website for about three years now... Just realize that you're now going to have to make backups for everything you put up...

BTW, if you do get a domain and hosting, I might recommend mambo and coppermine...

You can bridge the two databases together...

    Oh yeah, you'll need SQL...
