Subwoofer hookup for Onkyo TX-RS607 AV

Had a JVC AV which was tied in to a Boston Subset 6 subwoofer (early 90's vintage). The JVC unit is now defunct and thinking about acquiring an Onkyo TX-RS607 AV as its replacement. The old JVC had two preouts for this subwoofer (right and left channel) as the speaker also has the duplicate 4-wire inputs (wire screw ins) for the right and left channel. The new Onkyo receiver I am contemplating on purchasing only has one preout subwoofer 1 and another preout subwoofer 2 plug connection, as this Onkyo receiver has the capability of 7.2 channels. So it appears I will need coaxial cable for the subwoofer hookup on this style receiver. My question is, there any way of still using the Boston subwoofer (e.g 4-wire input) with the newer style receivers on the market today, or do I just consider the speaker superseded by technology advancement?

Welcome to CP
You can still use that subwoofer via speaker level inputs from the AVR's speaker outs. Thats the only method of hooking up the subwoofer to the receiver right? There are no RCA-line inputs?
As for the subwoofer pre-out on the receiver, that is a dedicated LFE output. You can set the receiver to determine how much bass (+/- db) is sent to your subwoofer as well as the cross-over frequency it cuts out at (IE 60hz, all audio 60hz and below is sent to your subwoofer to play). I think it's time to upgrade your sub
