Muffled sound on 3.1?

Another question :(

I finally got everything setup (Thanks to Freddy). Emotiva XPA-5 is up, SVS PB-12 is kicking, and experienced my first blu-ray movie experience. I watched Iron Man yesterday and the picture quality was magnificent. (My receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5890)

As for the sound, that's where the problem comes. Currently I only have 3.1 going (RTi10 and CSi5). My rears aren't hooked up yet because I have no room. -- I have a PS3 as a Blu-Ray Player.

When I watched Iron Man, 2.1 sounded great and clear. But when I switched to Dolby Digital 5.1 (Surround Enhanced) -- everything sounded muffled. I adjusted the PS3 settings (under sound settings) and enabled the right formats (2.1, dolby digital 5.1, DTS 5.1) and turned "on" the Multi-Audio formats. Still same results.

Does anyone have any suggestions or troubleshooting ideas? -- is it even possible to run 3.1? (or do you need 5.1 for everything to sound right?)

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I don't think it should sound "muddy", even without the rears.

I don't have a Yammie, so I don't know specifics for your AVR, but have you looked at/ tried different sound fields (modes)? My AVR (B&K) has different configurations, one with setting for Front Left/ Right + center and sub. It then decodes the rear signal into the fronts & center.

In my old Denon, I 'think' where was an option in setup to say "None" for rear speakers...Might be another solution.

"No Room" for the FXi6's? Sounds like Saws-All time to me....

Are you sure you have the binding post jumpers installed on your center?
