Powering SDA-iC

Hav a chance to score ONK A-9555 under $300 looks pretty new. Is it any good for driving SDA-iC? I'll either use Pio VSX52 or VSX-33TX as pre.

A-9555 rated 130 wpc @ 8ohms and 200 wpc @ 4ohms. My guess SDAs may get 160wpc.
Is A-9555 anygood at $300?
Can this amp be bi-amped?
Is it wise to drive it with this at this time and may be bi-amp

I was under powering them with an Adcom GFA-545ii, they still sounded great but not deep enough. I was lucky to get a conrad johnson 200 watts per channel amp, and my speakers came alive. So very happy with my 1c. From what I have read on other post they need power, clean power. I am thinking on jumping the tube way, but...

It really depends on the current capability of the amp. I was really surprised on how an Audiosouce Amp300 sounded on my 1Cs, 150/8, 280/4. It pushed mine pretty hard with plenty of bass. It wasn't as defined as my Carver, but my friend only paid $120.00 for it.

All amps aren't equal no matter the power rating, but rule of thumb, if you want to keep your budget around $300, then look for an Adcom GFA 555 (II) or Carver TFM 35...I know they will work spendidly with 1Cs and they aren't too hard to find.

if you can talk him down to 400.00 I would snap that up as it is an excellent fit with the 1c's. I ran a TFM-35 with mine and the sound was excellent.

That's pretty much an average price for a TFM 45. $400 is a very good price. Is the 55x still on CL? He wanted $450 and might have taken $400.

No there was a 55x on CL in the Livermore/Pleasanton area for quite awhile. It was there the last time I looked. The GFA 5500 is not common ground. You'll need to check about binding the negative terminals with Adcom or have Ben make you a cable.

Just picked up the TFM-45 this morning. I'll go home and give a listen later at night.. I got it for a good price..
I have a Question: the lights are not working on the amp. Can u please let me know where can I get the lamp and is there any special things that I need to be careful abt for replacing the lamps/bulb?

Check the Carver site. There's usually someone who either has the lamps or instructions on replacement. There's usually a guy on ebay that sells the bulbs too. I hope you demoed the amp while there. The bulbs do burn out, but I hope it's not an indication of further problems.

TFM 45 goes very well with SDA 1C. I don't hav a pre yet, but running off of iPod. So far so good. Any thots on using this AVR Pio Eli VSX-24TX as pre?

congrats on the amp. The lamps are easily replaced. I use an AVR for my pre and although it gets the job done, I am looking for something better. I would love to find a tube-pre that has HT bypass. For now I am sure it will get the job done.

Looks good, though if you want to run a sub, I'm unclear from the specs if there's a sub pre-out...just mentions L/C/R/S 5.0. If there is a sub pre-out somewhere, then it looks like a fine HT pre to start with on a budget.

I have no direct experience with the Mac's but I do desire to try them someday:). I like the way this one looks on paper, but am not certain if the pricing is fair or about the way it will work with the Carver.

I'm powering SDA 1Cs (possibly soon to be replaced, but more on that later) in my HT with a Carver M-4.0t (Denon AVR-2807 with preouts to the Carver). Does a fabulous job.

Gotta Carver Pre CT-17 and CDP TL-3200. They sound awesome w/ TFM-45.. I have to hook up the 1Cs sometime this week
