“Also i want to get the SDA effect."
You will never get the SDA effect using the Onkyo amp because it is allegedly a non-common ground amp. You need to be absolutely certain whether the Onkyo amp is common ground or not. You need 100% confirmation regarding this issue....
If you find an amp that is common ground see #4. This would apply to one amp being hooked up.

So Mike, is there something about what megasat16 said that you don't agree with??? Did I miss something?

I got up and measured the negative binding posts from M-508 and guess what? It is common grounded. So, it may be OK for the OP to run without AI-1 cable with it.

I was so wrapped up in responding to the OP that I missed what mega said. :D It's common ground!!!!..COOL.

He cannot use an AI-1 Dreadnaught because he has a blade/blade interconnect socket.

The AI-1 Dreadnaught can only be used on a pin/blade interconnect socket AFAIK.

A driver cone was frozen for several reasons. Depends on why and how it's frozen, it may be OK to use without removing it for a short time. If the VC becomes opened, it's OK since it's not in the circuit any longer. If the VC is rubbing or locked in to the bottom or any other way, it's not a good idea to use the speaker with that driver for a prolonged period of time.

Testing the whole speaker for a few minutes to check out the speakers may be fine. But using a frozen driver for a prolonged period may have negative impact on the amp and other drivers or the XO. Something that needs to be fixed is better to be fixed without using it, IMO.

The Dreadnaught can be used with some of the blade blade SDA's. You need to look up the serial numbers;)
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

"AFAIK" I had a feeling I read that somewhere as far as the serial numbers being above a certain number although I didn't want to swear by it and I was too lazy to look it up. :D

Thanks again for the wealth of information. When i get back to the "lab" ill post my serial #s. I did notice that mine were not consecutive and it sort of worried me. So i just want to verify that since my 508 is common ground i can throw my ic cable in and enjoy. As far as my blown 6.5 goes how can i tell whether or not its voice coil opened? Also what is a dreadnaught?

You're welcome. Non-consecutive SN's is not an issue so don't worry about that. I don't think anyone who ever owned Polk speakers had consecutive SN's on them.

According to mega your amp is common ground so, yes, connect the IC. You'll need an ohm meter to check the 6.5.

Google "dreadnaught polk forum" and you'll find instructions for making one. Keep in mind it requires cutting your IC in half and wiring it to a transformer. It's simple to make one and it allows you to use bridge mono amps on your SRS's. As Ben stated previously, the serial numbers need to be above a certain number in order for it to be compatible with your speakers. Google that info too and use that as your guide. Avel-Lindberg website had them for 100-125 bucks about 6 months ago although I haven't checked prices lately.

Just wanted to know what sort of Reading I should get when using my MM if the driver is in fact opened.

If you have Analog ohm meter, the needle will not move if the VC is open. If you have Digital MM, the display will not change (infinite) if the VC is open. If you get some kind of readings, the voice coil may still be good (half fry). Just make sure your bare hands don't touch the metal parts of the meter probes when taking measurements (not because of electrocution but the meter will show your body high impedance). :D

Oh...make sure you have the speaker wires unhooked / removed from the speakers before checking for open VC.

So the VC is not open as I do get a reading from my MM. So I was looking at my woofer and noticed my magnet was shifted and pulled it right off with some effort. So now I have a couple of questions. First off should I go to wallyworld and but some tubes of JB-Welt to reinforce all my 6.5 drivers to prevent magnet shift. Ive been reading that this is a common problem. Secondly since my VC appears not to have melted or been severed in any way, is there a chance that if I could manage to JB-Weld it back into place that my speaker would be good as new?
