Polk Audio DSW microPRO 1000 vs 2000

Hi,
I am planning to get the polk audio subwoofers and am new to this. Firstly I am amazed that this sub can output 1200 rms power which should be huge. How will it compare to subwoofers that are more expensive 12 inchers and have 300 watts rms. I dont know how it translates into loudness with wattage, so am a little unsure. Is the DSW micro pro more powerful and louder than those? Secondly, what is the difference between the 1000 and 2000. Since the 2000 costs almost twice of what the 1000 does, I dont know if it worth that jump. If anyonw has some experience with these please help me choose to go with this subwoofer (1000 or 2000) or some other better one. I am looking for a tighter bass rather than the boomy ones I have heard in the past. Any help would be much appreciated.

The Main differance in the Micropro 1000 and 2000 is the integration of the Autopro calibration system. This allows you to connect an included microphone to allow the subwoofer calibrate it self to your room environment. (feature available on Micropro 2000)

Be aware that MSRP differance is not a significant as retailer costs. So you simply must way the benefit/cost.

+1 and additionally the paint finish is gloss in MP2000 and matt in MP1000

The store I work at just got the 2000 & 3000 yesterday so I have been playing with them non-stop since then. Actually just playing with the 3000 so far. It is great so far. It plays very loud and deep, and looks great. Sounding really good with a little Marcus Miller on it!

I have the Micro Pro 1000. It does not have the auto calibration and is painted a satin black. For the coin difference I liked it as a good buy. The sound is amazing, very powerful and crisp. It is however broken right now and in process of fix or replace under Polk warranty.

I would run a lower powered 12 or 15" sub over a high powered 8". You have to move air to produce sound and you can't make up for a smaller driver by throwing more watts at it.

That's a generalization that doesn't play out well in this case. The microPRO series also include a passive radiator, so an 8" round driver coupled with an 8" x 8" passive radiator (in which case higher power certainly is a benefit) can move a lot of air. These little subs need to be experienced to be believed. Not saying they'd out-perform every other sub, but they certainly hold their own within a much smaller footprint than the bigger ones. My 15" sub probably takes up as much space as at least 5 microPRO 1000/2000s.

Of course, I wouldn't have made this statement if you hadn't made yours, which you wouldn't have made if michael1947 didn't decide to comment on a 2-year-old thread!! :eek:

ahh didnt see the old thread post. I am sure they have quite a hard punch / impact feeling but how low do they play? I am sure when you compair the same size they play lower due to the squar passive radiator.

Then again a 10x10 passive radiator is closer to the surface area of a 12" round woofer than a 10". So it should play lower when compaird to a sub in its same size category.

I was just looking at these yesterday!

Can I do dual 1000?s for music only in a room about 25? x 30? or do I need something larger? I don?t want to sell myself short. I know the others have calibration, but this is something that I?m going to have to tweak anyway, right?

With a pair of nice bookshelves, I think you'd have something pretty nice. I had wanted to do that at one time and actually owned a pair of LSi7s and microPRO 2000s, although I never got a chance to properly set them up... so I sold them all. The LSis sound wonderful on their own... I can only wonder what would have been. :redface:

Up until now, i've been sharing my svs sub that I also use for my ht rig. From what read, dual subs are the way to go. I love the detail the lsi9's, especially with vocals. I imagine the right dual subs will give me just what i'm looking for. I would just like to keep to budget down a bit without selling myself short.
