Giving props to another lesser-known release.... Muramasa the Demon Blade.

Great reason to dust off your wii. Very good fighting system.... the best in a 2D beat em up type game since Viewtiful Joe came out.

Its not just a 'mash the attack button'... you can do that for quick combos, but most of the more strategic fighting is done by holding down the attack button and then pressing various directions on the analog stick.... i.e. slam forward for quick dash attacks, up for upper cuts (which you can do do several times), and down for slices. Also holding A causes a parry mode to defelect projectiles.... and then there are unique special attacks with the 50 some swords in the game, and you can hold 3 at a time! whew! So, while the game looks a lot like Odin Sphere (which may have the better story... I'm not sure yet), Muramasa has a far better battle system.

Battles get really insane and the artwork is gorgeous, even if only 480p. Its all hand drawn, so the resolution hit isn't as bad as it would be for a 3D game.

I definitely recommend checking it out if you are interested in games like this at all. Non-blockbuster games like this need support!

Next obscure game I'm looking forward to is Demon's Souls for PS3. Anyone else picking that up?
