Polk all the way! I've never been much of a fan of JL's "sound quality."

JL is the automotive equivalent of BOSE.
Eventhough the rulkes say no brand bashing, JL is the most over-hyped, over-rated equipment I have ever seen! It's poser equipment.
I would go with the Polk stuff. The Eclipse stuff is nice but over-priced for what it is. I can get the same speakers from Blaupunkt for half the price. BTW, in case anyone didn't know Blaupunkt is owned and manufacturerd by Bosch.
If the newer EX lines are anything like the original EX lines then they are very durable and very clean. I have a set of 4 inch and a set of 5 inch EX's at home and they have served me well. They were mounted in a pickup truck in a very abusive environement. The 4 inchers are still mounted in teh dash of teh truck and if it wasn't for the dust, they would look brand new. They are about 8 years old now. Only thing is, with the EX speakers, you will most likely need a sub. WHile they are rated pretty low in frequency response, they just do reach that low well. So crossing them over at 70-100 Hz is a good idea and getting a sub and crossing it over at about 80-100 Hz is good.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

i am running 2 jl amps and 1-10w6 and i will have to say that i am very impressed with them. regulated power, and one hell of an accurate sub..strong enough that with one 10w6 in .7cubic ft sealed box i can hit 133db consecutivly !!
but still love my polk home audioSpeakers:

Then you have never had the pleasure of auditioning Polk, Focal, MB Quart, Hifonics or any number of other companies whose equipment is actually worth the high price tag.
I can get the same performance as JL from Rockford Fosgate equipment for considerably cheaper than JL. About the only benefitto JL stuff is the Stealthboxes. I've installed 3 in different vehicles and each time i yanked the JL sub and installed a better sub. The last one was a Kicker Solo-Baric.
If you like your JL equipment, that's fine, I'm happy for you. I just feel that my money can buy me much more for the price of the JL stuff so I will shop elsewhere.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

*cracks neck... knuckles... does little warm up dance like Rocky*...
JL... JL.... ........ J... L ???????????????????????????
webster's defines JL as "jensen's louder", "just lousy", and or "just lame".
if these do not suffice, i'll think of more.
JL markets their product with pride on things that are inconsequential...
- regulated power supplies... so they'll play from 10 to 16 volts... well WOOP DE DOO... the thing sounds liek garbage at 10 volts... and who the hell will play their amp at 10 volts anyway? nobody... my frickin radio shack 4 channel in my old man's truck played down to 9 volts and change a few days ago -- then it clipped out and shut off along with everthing else in the truck... but at 9 volts (and not hot at all) the amp was pushing 4 speakers and a 10" sub loud enough to hear 3 houses away. fact is.. most any amp will play at 10 volts... it'll just sound like do doo compared to its 12.5 - 14v capabilities.
- large roll foam surrounds... um... #1 foam sucks... #2 large roll means LESS CONE AREA.
- high rms ratings... which come at a price because as soon as u break 800 watts for more than 10 or 20 minutes on the 750 watt rms rated 12w7, it's smoking like Ray Charles at a Cuban Cigar festival. god forbid they rate the thing a little conservatively.
- price tag... i'm sorry but nearly 1000 dollars for a 13w7 should be a federal crime when the dealer cost is less than 300. (they've gone down in recent times to about 700 but its still rape).
- sound quality... even the blessed w7 sounds no better than a momo, and that is not a knock against the momo.... the momo is a good sub... but a 700 - 1000 dollar / 1000 watt "supposedly SQ" subwoofer should sound better than a 250 dollar / 500 watt subwoofer... yet it doesn't... it transcends no boundaries which would justify its price or hype.
Cody -- EX III's or Pioneer TSA upper end are good speakers... really good speakers. the eclipse are very good too... i have not owned them or heard them more than twice (and i'm not sure of what line... i simply happened to gander/listen at a mitsubishi that rolled into circuit with a set of eclipse coax -- he thought he was cool cuz his car was an eclipse and he owned eclipse... maybe if i liked imports i'd agree with the guy) ... the pioneers are more trebble friendly, the polk's more true to the music being played, also good as infinity kappa (even tho i'm no big fan). The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
i have been into car audio for about 15 yrs and have heard all of the product you have mentioned and have used most of it..personally i would never use a pre made box because they are all garbage i dont care who makes them. i am not using jl components for mid's and tweet's because they are not all that great in the tweeter area but there high end subs are hard to beat. and as far as comparing jl to rockford the most over priced buy me for the cool name garbarge that can't even compete with anything but maybe kraco( just not a rockford fan at all). that is apples to oranges. i have compared 2 supposedly better systems than mine with rockford amps 1 with 2-rockford 10's and one using 2 rockford he2 12's, both with the bd1000, and sorry but the 2 10' couldnt keep up and the 12's were a little louder but sloppy on the tighter kick bass. the only thing that came from rockford that was any good was there punch series in the late 80"s early 90's and even then they were'nt that great, but powerful. and besides who pays retail any more ??? if you know the right people there is no such thing as a high price tag unless you buy the over priced over rated crap such as sony, pioneer, rockford, mtx, and yes even some of jl's stuff. i would love to put some focal components for mid's and tweets's in my system but the bank roll just won't permit. and i wish i would have never sold my mbquart 3way component system cause DAMN those were the shiznit.. but hey its no big thing everybody's hearing is different. and when you looking for a certain sound you experiment and go through a lot of product doing it. i highly recomend taking full advantage of exchange/refund policies
i was originally going to get a polk sub and components but couldn't get a good price on them and well i found some gear that could compete for less money.
any ways sorry for the ramble and i'm not trying to start anything, just like most defending there own and having a good time. and like i said and most will agree evryone 's hearing is different.. so have fun and enjoy i know i will and **** who knows at the rate i have been changing my stuff i probably will have a completly different system in my vehicle in a year...
regulated power is great because you get all the watts an amp is rated at when your altenator is not generating 14.5 which is what most amps are rated at, my 500-1 gives me 500 watts all the time not like un regulated amps that will only give you there rated power when there only getting 14.5voltsSpeakers:

and im a rockford fosgate fan so im going to have to REALLY disagree with you on that one
yes, yes, i know theyre not the cleanest coolest running amps out there
and with stuff like hifonics, zapco, us amps etc. they can barely keep up if at all
theyre not over priced for what you get
i mean if i can find a power 500.2 brand new with warranty for $350 and when its rated at 500 watts and on the birth sheet it says 810
i dont really call that over rated crap

ahh phuz -- good work my friend...
and not only does the IDmax sound better all around -- it LOOKS better. JL's too ashamed to even put their name on the non existent dustcap... poor JL.The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -

Being an EX JL user (hangs head in shame)...
anyway..the W7 aint that bad of a sub...if you have the money to waste!
One thing I really hate about JL subs.. (except w7) is they sound like ONE note wonders! If you have had a JL sub...and run something else..you have already experienced this phenominom..
anyway..could not resist the JL bashing post...
Go Polk go... :0) -
were not bashing
