New SVS Sub-Equalizer

Has anyone had experience with using sub EQ's? I see that SVS has a new product that they proclaim makes an incredible difference in leveling out the bass. I run dual SVS subs and am wondering if this is worth the investment.

I have to say I am not terribly unhappy with my current bass, but I guess am always looking for ways to improve my system.:D

I was looking at that SVS EQ but I'm still on the fence. I'll wait the unbiased reviews to come it. I did however consult a Audyssey Setup Guide on the AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14456895) that I'm sure most on this site are quite familiar with.
I have to admit that my approach is not too technical as I'm still learning many of the fundamentals. I found the guide very helpful and I'm very pleased with some of the basic changes and noticeable improvements that I've already made in my setup.
I'm curious if anyone else out here has an opinion on this guide?

It will help if your room acoustics are affecting your Bass response (Peaks and Nulls and such). If you already have a good flat Bass response, then it may not do much for you.
I have a Velodyne SMS-1 and it has greatly improved some of my sub bass issues. I also use mine to change the EQ adn the Sub's volume on the fly depending on what I'm watching-such as to increase the low freq impact during movies and such.
If you are not sure you need one or not, or want to try the DIY approach, check out Room EQ Wizard at Hometheatershack.com. It's free and you can use it to measure the audio response in your room (and not just for sub bass). That way you can get an idea whether or not you need correction or not. If your sub or AVR already has any kind of correction EQs you may find that you don't eed any further correction. To use REW, at a minimum you need a Radio Shack SPL meter (~$35), and a computer nearby with Line inputs (There are several very inexpensive USB Line in adapters for laptops, if your's doesn't have that capability).
If you find you do need correction and want to take the REW a step further, you can buy a Behringer Feedback Destroyer (~$100) and program it with REW and use it the same way the SMS1 or SVS Sub EQ would.
There is plenty of more detailed info on the HTShack forums I linked to above.
Of course the SVS or Velo SMS-1 is a dedicated piece and is much easier to setup and use-but you pay for that convenience.____________________
