    My room is 21' x 13' x 8', with 2 openings (one 6' x 5', one 6' x 3') to other rooms, and my SVS is still providing great bass for both movies & music. The best $450 I ever spent. Can you save another $150.00 or so?

    Nice sub.
    21 x 13 x 8 (plus the 2 small openings) = 2568 cubic ft

    20' x 40' x 13' (used 13' because I'm too lazy to calc. with the angles) = 10400 cubic ft.

    As many have said he is going to need more than 1 $500 sub.
    Preferably 2-4 identical subs, whether he wants to buy them 1 at a time as $$ allows or 2 at a time or buy 1 sub and stop, that's a decision he will need to make. I think we have given him lots to think about. Sometimes we need to take a step back and stop being salesman and try to answer the questions asked.

    I have found SVS is great for HT but not so hot for music, of course they are HT subs, someone hears SQ differences for explosions in an HT then rock on and spend there is a sub for every budget, the new Polk subs are both musical and can do very well in your HT, they are though, more expensive, we demoed them in an actual home music Rig for hours and hours and last year, they are thumbs up.

    Also, how much bass is based on your ears and preference. For me personally I want a bass that will recreate real life experiences when I watch a movie because in real life when you're walking down the street you don't hear "BOOM BOOM BOOM" so when I'm watching movies and tv I have my sub set to not exagerate it, but some people want big bass booms.

    I don't know much but i know my Velodyne dls-3750r can really shake my 1200sq ft apartment and get my neighbour's pounding on the door! lol

    I think it's only rated to 28Hz but it seem's to get lower IMO

    IMHO It also sound's equally well while listening to music, just have to change the setting's a bit and presto! I can't wait untill i have all this stuff figured out and optimized then i'll be in heaven :D

    What is your take on Klipsch Synergy subs? I can get another pretty good deal on a Klipsch Synergy sub 12. Should I hold out for an SVS or is this a nice sub? It seems to get pretty good reviews.

    Price range? What's a "good deal?"

    I have two subs for sale, including a Klipsch RW-10D which would blow that Synergy out of the water. I'm not really a fan of the synergy subs... they're boomy and muddy to me.

    Better driver i think, better port design, and more "tuning" capabilities.

    Oh, I missed the 40' - sorry. You are right apphd, my room is much smaller. Have you decided on anything yet?

    The voice of my experience - I also have Polk Monitor 70s and my living room is about 25 x 15 and partially open to a dining room. 2 years ago I made the mistake of thinking a $200 range sub would be adequate (Velodyne VRP1200). When I hooked it up I was disappointed -- Two Polk Monitor 70s put out decent midrange and treble and the bass was lacking. So I bought a 15" sub (Epik Valor, a discontinued model, which was perfect for that room size.

    However, with a large room you might even want a couple more Monitor 70s to fill the room with sound, like I did. So save your money until you can get a $700 to $900 sub, or just get a temporary cheaper sub until you upgrade. I used my old sub for a nice bedroom 2.1 system -- a cheap sub will rock in a small room.

    Bedroom System: 2 Mon.60s,Velo VRP1200, HK3490

    I am kind of leaning toward a SVS PB12-NSD, unless I come across a good deal on something really nice. My room won't be that big for long, we'll be finishing up the house and selling it next year, hopefully.

    I just purchased a PSW 505 from newegg, which they have for 229.00 shipped right now with promo code. I haven't tested it on a full blast action movie yet but musically it sounds great and I have an open game room where probably 15 X 20 with the system on a side wall and the sub in the corner facing towards the open end angled towards seating area...
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    Well, now I am really having a tough time. I was ready to buy the sub, spoke with some SVS folks and they advised against it with the size of my room. The suggested the PB12 Plus, I will have a tough time spending a grand on a sub, but want my system to sound nice.
