I was in the sixth grade in my Biology class (Period 2) when it happened.

Let's take a moment to pray for our fallen heroes.

I was working at a store right by Ft Knox. Most of our customers were from base and I remember a few of them walking in to watch the news on one of the many TV's. That was both surreal and sombering.

Also... I had just dropped off my mom at the airport two hours earlier. She was in the air while everything was going on. I actually gave her the news after she landed.

    Horrible, horrible day....
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I had just gotten out of Business Law class at UT and there were probably 200 students in the business school atrium watching on the TV as they tried to diagnose what happened to the first tower. We all watched the second one hit and them both go down. It was awful to see.

I was on leave, playing at Berkley Country Club...had just finished possibly the best 9 holes of golf I've ever played; I birdied 7,8,9. Went in to the clubhouse to take a leak at the turn and it was all over the TV. Nothing has been the same since.

I work across from Battery Park, 3 blocks away.

Lets not forget not only the fallen city workers but the everyday folks that worked at firms, resturants, etc. The unpaid volunteers ( who really get my respect) that pulled the injured and dead from the rubble. Many of them suffered afterwards from disabling illnesses and have since not been adequately taken care of. Let’s not forget the everyday citizen that does the right thing without the need of an official title.

I was on a United Airlines flight from DC to Los Angeles when all this happened. I had a reservation on the flight out of Dulles that hit the Pentagon that morning. Decided at the last minute to depart out of Reagan National instead (girlfriend didn't feel like driving from Dupont Circle to Dulles!)

I was stranded in Chicago for six days. I'll never forget how nice everyone was to each other that day. It was surreal. As someone who was averaging 100k miles a year on planes, the difference was very noticeable.

I stll have the Washington Post I bought in the airport that morning and my reservation on Flight 77 (my favorite flight from DC to LA, only non-stop available).

I definitely dodged a big bullet that day. I make an effort to enjoy every day of life since then. Its been a great way to live!

I hope all the relatives of the victims are well. What a nightmare.

    God bless America.

Wow, xj, that's an incredible bit of luck there.

I was in HS at the time. Walked past the office and there were a bunch of people looking at the TV. All I saw was some smoke and didn't really stop to see what was going on (I actually remember thinking it might've been a volcano eruption). Heard kids talking about a plane that hit a building... now I was thinking it was some Cessna in a local city or something.

Then, I got to my next class, where everyone who was already there was staring at the TV in silence. Only the first tower had been hit at this point. I sat down and turned around just in time to see the second plane hit. The reaction in the room was incredible. Kids who didn't care about what happens in their own town much less a city a few miles away were crying. I attribute it to a fear of the unknown...

Then, once we heard about the Pentagon hit, we got really nervous. Our school was inside the 10mi radius of the local nuclear power plant. If something happened there we'd all be in trouble. Thankfully that never happened.

I have newspapers from the week following the attack, but I've not needed to look at them yet to remind myself what happened and where I was that day.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I just started my current job with the State of California. I was watching the morning news and knew what was going on. Nonetheless, I still took BART (the Bay Area's quasi-subway system) across the Bay to work. Everyone on the train was really nervous and were talking about what was happening. After getting to San Francisco's first station, the BART Police wanted everyone out of the trains and station. I had to walk from the waterfront to City Hall....and of course, being the newbie, I was the only one at work.

    Never forget.

I was teaching sixth grade that morning. I remember before school started thinking about how to "be there" for the kids that day. To teach about life and the future that day, and the days that followed. I used my experience from student teaching when Challenger exploded. But most of all, I was grateful to be in a parochial school and to be able to use faith as deal and build strength.

I worked for United Airlines at the time as a mechanic and was at work that morning busy in the process of overhauling a 737 at our maintenance base in Indy. We were all in utter shock that morning, like the rest of the nation, as we watched the second plane hit. Absolutely gut-wrenching for days with lots of other weird emotions in play also, even some guilt knowing that two of our planes were used in this tragedy. My heart goes out to anyone who was affected by this in any way.

I was in 8th grade. I was bringing my instrument into the band room like I did every morning before my other classes, and I remember everyone watching the TV. Both towers had already been hit; I remember watching the first tower fall. I was standing on the third tier, out of four, middle right section... I don't think I have a more clear memory that's now 8 years old.

    God bless the American people

I was in my freshman year of high school. It was my study hall period, and I was in the library. The librarian walked over to the tables and said everyone needed to put down whatever they were doing and she turned on the TV. She turned it on about 5 minutes before the second plane hit.

There basically weren't any lessons for the rest of the day. We all went to our classes, but we just watched the news reports from New York for the rest of the day.
