SRS 3.1tl's clashing with my tv. Need help

I just picked up a 36" Sony Wega this week and am having some problems. My front speakers are the 3.1's and due to space limitations they have to be placed fairly close to the tv. The left channel can go almost as close as a foot before it discolors the screen. The right however will cause problems from 2 1/2 to 3 feet away. I don't have any options as far as placement on another wall so I'm stuck with what I've got. As a last resort I'll have to retire the speakers for something else. Is there anything out there that is an add-on to shield the speakers? Also, I'm not sure why the right is so much more influential than the left. Any ideas? Thanks

I know there are a few people that have magnetically shielded thier SDA's for HT purposes so I know it is feasible. You can get the magnets from places like partsexpress.com and the like. So, I wouldn't be so hasty to retire them......Where in Maine are you from? I am from Wells, originally.

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting us, I'll try and offer some helpful information. There are reverse polarity magnets (called "bucking magnets") that can be attached to the tweeters and drivers in your speakers. These are attached to the backs of each of the components and reduce the stray magnetic fields by close to 80%
. In order for the resulting sound to be balanced you would have to do all of the tweeters and drivers.
The magnets for the tweeters sell for $6.00 each and the ones for the 6.5" drivers sell for $7.00 each plus some shipping. For ordering and any additional questions you might have telephone us at: 1-800-377-7655.

I have my Polk 3.1TL's directly adjacent to my Sony 61" rear projector. No problems what-so-ever. One option may be for you is to move the tube-tv to another room and upsize your TV. This just might be the excuse you were needing to appease the MRS. for a bigger TV.

    Just a thought.

Troy, I'm right outside of Topsham. In the Navy.
Thanks to Ken. I called him up and ordered the magnets today. Hopefully that will help out. I made a few purchases for the home theater today, a receiver and polk 400 center channel. Wouldn't you know it, I got home and opened up the center channel box and the corner of the speaker was smashed. Now I have to go back to Circuit City in the morning and try to explain I didn't drop it. Box wasn't even crushed. I have the best of luck.

CC, or at least the one here in Charleston, is pretty good about returns so I wouldn't really worry too much about them not taking it back....Ken is a great guy and like I said, I know that some people have successfully magnetically shielded thier SDA's....My next door neighbor has shielded a older pair of JBL's, so you shouldn't have too much trouble.

My grandparents used to live in Harpswell (small town and I am related to about 50% of the residents) until they passed away, I used to spend all my summers there. I know the area very, very well. My cousin, as a matter of fact graduated from Bowdoin last spring. Small world.

    Keep those P-3's flying!

The magnets did the trick. Now I have the tv and speakers seperated by my mono amps (about 14 inches) and no interference. The wierd thing about when I installed the magnets was that they would oppose each other until I got the magnet within maybe 1 1/2 inch from the driver magnet, then it was pretty much nuetral. Ended up being a very easy modification though. I noticed no sound characteristic changes and it doesn't seem to require much more power if any. Thanks for all the help guys.

Old Mainer here...Well, not old, but a Mainer non-the-less...Hope to move back there one day.

Circuit City should be pretty good about exchanging the Speaker...

Troy, Which Charleston do you live in? SC?
I got a friend that works at a CC down there...
