Anyone Using ReadyBoost?

Just found out about the ReadyBoost feature of Vista after I plugged in a 2GB high-speed (mine is 133x; 20Mbs read/write sustained; class 6 for SDHC) SD card into the slot. I bought 3 of these for my new camera. Pretty neat.

I'm not sure how much a difference it will make since it is only a 2GB device and I have 4GB of DDR3 1066Mhz memory, but it certainly can't hurt I figure. I did read that it compresses the data on a 2:1 ratio, so in that sense I'm at 1:1 as recommended, but....

    Oh yeah.

No other sensible way to get Vista if you can't use the RAM already installed, much less anything on a flash drive.

I checked my Event Viewer and the card tested at a random read speed of 8867 kb/s and sequential write speed of 10205 kb/s.

On an unrelated note, ESPN360 says it's not compatible with 64-bit systems but it worked great this weekend on my machine.

I had to ask I see time and time again people putting 6 and 8gb of ram in there pc running a 32 bit OS. from my experience with readyboost the improvement wasnt enough to be worth it. I gained .2 points on my windows experience rating. My pc didnt boot any faster and with you having 4gb of ram I dont think your sytem would ever need to use the readyboost but im sure it doesnt hurt to have if it does need it.

when i first was running vista i was using 1gb ram, the readyboost 4gb usb stick really made a difference... since then i have installed a ssd OS drive and now 2gb ram on vista 64 and i'm not sure if ready boost is as huge of an improvement as it used to be, but the light on my usb stick sure does flash a lot still, maybe its still working alot and i dont notice. doesn't cost much to store your usb stick in a usb port and just disable ready boost when you need portable data.

if you're looking for a low cost upgrade read anandtech.com's write up on ssd drives and consider using one for your operating system drive.
