Is anyone here taking a Modern Physics or Physics E&M course?

If so, I've got a question - I'm studying for my quiz tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!

Okay, so I'm doing a question on waves. Honestly, I forgot everything from Classical Physics (I took that my freshman year).

    Anyways, here goes:

The voltage of an electromagnetic wave traveling on a transmission line is given by v(z,t) = 5e^-qz sin(4(pi) X 10^9t - 20(pi)z), where z is the distance in meters from the generator. Find the frequency, wavelength, and phase velocity of the wave. At z = 2m, the amplitude of the wave was measured to be 1V. What is the value of q?

That's beyond me lol. I took 2 semesters of regular physics and i've never seen that equation before. I'm a Medical Biology major so I didn't need more than 2 semesters. Good luck though!

That **** was straight out of Good Will Hunting. It seems to me that BigMac is the equivilent of the lead character, and I bow down to intelligence. I bet, after he finished this problem, he mocked the OP for being simple minded and said something along hte lines of, "I can do this **** in my sleep".

The thing I noticed about the lower level college physics courses is that the math is generally really easy. The hard part is knowing what to do with the information they give you to get the information they want. That's the part that gets me. Oh well, I'm done with it now :)

I guess you must teach some upper-level Physics courses at a university or something like that... guess I'll never know.

I do security and personal training for a living (that's my story and I'm sticking to it:D). The personal training I do now is mainly for people that are in a financial crunch or cannot afford a trainer. I cannot take my knowledge with me when I go, so I might as well share as much of it as I can. Security pays the bills and I only have to work every so often. Pay is good but the attention to detail is the hard part. Much more mental than physical by far. If I wanted physical I would go bounce at some bar. Would be kinda fun to hand some people their asses and get paid for it,lol.
