Outdoor Speaker Hookup

How is the best way to connect 10, 8-ohm, speakers for an outdoor patio/pool? My latest try was 7 channel stereo with 3 sets of speakers connected in parallel. Giving me 4 speakers at 8 ohms and 6 speakers at 4 ohms. That setup fried my Denon 1708 at relatively low volume. However, I have read where that Denon model stopped working for others in "normal" setups. I want to make sure it was the Denon and not my setup before hooking up the next receiver. Thanks - long time viewer, first time poster.

A majority of AVR's are NOT designed for 4 ohm loads. You'll have to get by on 7 ch.'s, OR get a 12ch. multi-zone amp, and feed it from the 'zone 2' rca's off the back of your Denon.
Good luck.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
You were askin quite alot of your AVR, especially in parallel...
IDK the calcs, but I would guess it was a huge load.
You should get one of these.
And drive it with an amp capable of the loads.

or get a amp designed for multizones. -
Thanks everyone for your advise. I will probably cut back to 7 channels for now - I only have 6 atrium 45s anyway. Then by next summer I can get the entire back yard rockin'. I am not sure I can afford all the money this forum is saving me!7.3 HT: Sunfire TGR-3, Sunfire Series II, Mirage OMD-28, OMD-5 (x4), REL T1 (2), T2, Oppo 103D, Optoma HD8200PRO, 106" screen, SB Touch

If you are still getting a new AVR, since yours was fried, be sure and get one that has one or two "zone' preouts so that you are set for the future upgrade.

Thanks kcoc - the Denon started working again after disconnecting all speakers except for FL and FR. Thank goodness for Denon's shutdown feature. I wanted to make sure when I reconnected it that I did not do permanent damage. Looks like I already have a project for the Spring and bargains to look for over the Winter.7.3 HT: Sunfire TGR-3, Sunfire Series II, Mirage OMD-28, OMD-5 (x4), REL T1 (2), T2, Oppo 103D, Optoma HD8200PRO, 106" screen, SB Touch
