The Thrift Store/Yard Sale System Is Growing

I picked up my Polk RTA 11TL's for $50 at a thrift store a couple months ago. A week before that, I got a pair of Bose 501's for $25. I've been seaching for a powered sub at a stupid price like that and have passed on a couple of other deals in that time... But when I saw a pair of Cerwin Vega bookshelf speaker (vintage L7's) for $2 for the pair, I snatched them up.
Funny thing is they sound nowhere as rich as the Polks and 5 times more accurate than the Bose.

Just a reminder, keep a look out at yard sales and thrift stores!

? Harmon Kardon AVR 55 (dead; replacing with Onkyo TX NR-616)
? Polk RTA 11TL's (FR and FL)
? Polk TSi200's (RR and RL)
? Polk CS10 (Center)
? Polk PSW-350
? Grado SR-60i Headphones
? Fii0 E5 headphone amp
? iPod touch (8 gig)
? iPod Classic (80 gig)
? Mac Mini (as media server)
? xbox 360

$2 for a pair of speakers is pricey sometimes.

I paid $2 for an entire rig one time, moons ago, that included a perfect NAD receiver, perfect Yamaha CD player and cassette deck, Audiosource EQ.

The hey day for those places died with ebay.

You're right around the corner! I live in Cincinnati, but my finds are mostly Fairfeild and Hamilton. Keep an eye out; and seriously, if anyone runs across a disgustingly sick deal on a good powered sub, let me know... Craiglist ain't doin' for me and eBay is killing me on shipping.

Low price of $50 for a pair of RTA 11TL's has been SHATTERED as of this morning at a church rummage sale. In black, beautiful cabs and grilles. Dome tweets were pushed in but that's already been fixed.

I got mine for $50 w/ a bad tweeter and peeling laminate. And they're not even TL's. :\

Oh well, still a good deal.

I have basically quit looking a pawnshops because for the most part, they know what they have, and they are trying to charge you a bunch for it.

Well, come on... What did you pay?!? I love hearing success stories, especially for big finds like that.

As little as I paid for these, they are from from what I would consider to be my real coup. Actually, it's not even close. You have to understand I have been doing this for a VERY long time. What I DID set today as well as your new low $ paid record, was a land speed record for the purchase of a pair of loudspeakers. This event/accomplishment will from this point on be known as the Grand Land Speed Barrier.

Here's a couple better one's from years back. The $2 system centered around the fairly new (at the time) NAD stereo receiver.

The Marantz "Esotec" 100wpc power amp, and preamp, not a scratch and operating flawlessly, in original boxes, $5/pair.

Pristine "Shell" tube integrated amp, $6. Matching Shell tube fm tuner, $3.

Then there was a boatload of things that I got, just by waking up and going to work. I had a "Magic Desk" that people used to leave stuff on, and would never come back for. NAD power amps, Nak cassette decks, Fisher tube receivers. I hated that job but I loved that desk.

    $20
