Plate Amp 200-500w

Title says it all, while I'm getting schooled in the world of tubes (Thanks F1, Face and RT1) I've got a DIY sub project that will be taking precedence. Picked up an HSU VTF-3 HO sub driver from Jeff on the forum and now would like to grab an amp. Talked to Pete at HSU and he says 200watts will suffice to achieve the results I'm looking for, although more is always better, if you've got what I'm looking for give me a PM!
Yes I'm aware of Parts-express amps along with O-audio and Elemental Designs, but I'm testing the waters here to see if I can grab something used.

Would also be interested in a stereo amp (that can be bridged).Truck setup

Try the Adcom 555II. It produces 600 watts bridged @ohms .

That would probably be the easiest choice, and you will be able to juggle the amps.
How are you going to control the x-over frequency if you will be using the external (non-sub) amp? I'd suggest Carver M-400(t) cube - those things are beasts and can be used as a 'single channel' (not really bridged, rather current steering, but will fit your purpose).
If you're thinking about external cross-over, Paradigm makes some nice x-over boxes for subs.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

You could use the crossover in the AVR. When I run my sub I've always used the LFE input on the amp plate which is preferred. -
Hey Lee, get my PM?
And I already know how I'd run an external amp if I chose that route.
Not sure if the adcom would be overkill, how many watts does it run bridged @4ohms? That and I don't want to spend more than $200, going with that would set me back 325-350Truck setup

Yep got the PM. I have to find the remote for the amp plate. Don't know where the hell I put it.
The Adcom is 825 watts bridged @4 ohms. Got one for you for sale. I'll get back with you if I find the remote for the plate. -
It's cool, wasn't aware the other one required a remote. I'm going to pull the trigger on a P.E. one soon since I want to get the box started on already.Truck setup

Still looking around for one, by the way have any of you built your own sub? I'm looking for a nice terminal plate to add to it with a bypass feature (IE simple toggle switch). Yes it can easily be self-made but would prefer to spend that time on the construction of the box instead. I want the sub to utilize the plate amp but also have the ability to switch over to the binding posts to be powered by an external amp if I wanted to play around with it or found something even more powerful later on.Truck setup

PM Geoff727 (SDA rebuild guy in SEA) about the plate.
He knows a place that made him some really nice ones for a pair of Infinity speakers he is rebuilding.
They were nice etched names with brushed stainless.
I think he is actually doing something similar because he is building the x-overs in an exterior box. He is just doing it with jumpers, I think.
IDK but I would think jumpers maybe a better option, acually pretty simple......and better sound unless you use a really high quality switch.
I am sure someone can recommend one. -

How about a nice relay? Obviously, you'd have to power the coil, but I am sure you can find a suitable voltage on the plate amp .Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

I was just seeing what was available on ebay for a passive sub that I'm looking at. Looks like a couple of fairly powerful ones are pretty inexpensive.:)

I don't know anything about that first one, but that second one Stealth acoustics, has their own site. I also took into consideration O-Audio since they've got a nice little reputation behind them. I've just been talking to several people and they said working with Bash amps it can be a hit or miss, I'm steering more torwards a Dayton plate amp.
As stated, still looking for one otherwise I'll be ordering one.Truck setup

When I built my custom sub in the spring, I was seriously looking at Dayton amps vs. Bash.. Well, BASH amp went on sale and I decided to take a dive. You know, for ported 12" sub, the 300-Watt BASH amp is very good . But then again, I am in love with sealed/servo subs, so I am only using ported subs in the HT for more ooomph in the movies. :rolleyes:Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

Plateamp problem solved, although I would like to hear about utilizing a relay. And would a 'lower quality' switch really affect SQ that much? Its just to bypass the plateamp and use the terminal plate so I can use an external amp if I ever wanted to....I mean the wire that will run from the terminal plate to sub will be BJC or even some monoprice wire. Any thoughts?
How exactly would I hook it up too? I guess I'm having a bit of a brainfart right now haha but since I don't have a switch on hand nor can I see the plateamp right now I don't know what I'm really messing with.
Edit: When everything starts getting put together I'll document everything in case anyone's interested in how things were wired and made. Christopher wanted to take part and help me out so we'll see how things come outTruck setup

Got my amp, so don't need one anymore. However I still have plans for a relay or switch so I can go from my plateamp to my terminal plate to use an external amp if I ever wanted to. How would that be wired up? Any info is appreciatedTruck setup

The way that comes into my mind first is using 2 single throw double throw switches and always having one on and one off.

How about a single pole double throw on each (-) and (+)? I'm really not sure how to go in terms of wiring. Might be much simpler than I think but I don't know....mind drawing something up?
Better yet, 1 double pole double throw switch?Truck setup
