Spikes vs Auralex pads

Hello,

I am wanting to isolate my SDA-1Bs from a hardwood floor. Can anyone comment on the merits of spikes (with pads) vs. a product like the Auralex SubDude? I believe I would have to add some small wood blocks inside the pedestal to accept a T-nut to screw in the spike.

I have tried both BUT on a short hard carpeted floor..spikes worked better for the speakers, and the Auralex Gramma worked with the sub....

How much improvement can be expected from doing this? Just curious.
