Polk PSW1200 oppinions

I currently have 2 Polk Monitor 60, Polk CS2 center, 2 Monitor 40 and a Onkyo 607

My plan is to buy a Polk PSW505, around $220 to $250
Now I have a chance to buy a used but in excellent condition PSW1200 for around $550

The room is 20 x 15 in a SFH. Size and look does not matter. The use is 80% music, 20% movie

So what do you think?
- Is PSW1200 overkill?
- Does 607 have enough power for PSW1200?
- Money wise for quality over $300 in difference plus the risk no warranty

Thanks

    Welcome to Club Polk!

That thing is a BEAST of a sub made by Polk, and just wanted to say that youre receiver in no way powers the subwoofer in regards to this question - "Does 607 have enough power for PSW1200?"

For the $ you're spending, I think others will chime in and recommend what you should/could get w/warranty and be just as satisfied but in the end it comes down to what you want.

That sub might be better suited for HT imo but I could be wrong.

+1 Freddy, the Onkyo will have nothing to do with powering this sub. It is a self powered sub, and has it's own amp. so the AVR will have nothing to do with powering it. I would pull the trigger on it, assuming it is in good shape and works well.

The PSW1200 is a self-powered sub, so no issues there.

IMHO, for that kind of money you could get a subwoofer from a company that specializes in subwoofer design like SVS or Velodyne, I never was a big fan of Polk home theater subs. You might have to go used, but they're still good subs. I've had my Velodyne for over 5 years now with no problems, and I use it like I stole it!

I agree, for $550 used, I think you can get a much better sub from SVS, HSU, etc.

I think $550 used is a pretty high price....

Personally, I'd go with something from Epik or SVS...possibly Velodyne, before I'd go with either of the Polk's. Especially since it will primarily be used for music. The PSW series subs aren't really known for their musicality, they're geared more for HT use.

I've never heard the 1200 before, but it looks like a pretty solid sub.

I've heard the 505 numerous times though, and for the money they can be had for, I think they're hard to beat.
