advice on where to sell a pair of Monitor 10s

Hello, I bought a pair of Monitor 10s in 1985 or 86, hooked them up to a nice Sansui amp, periodically played my jazz collection on them for 10 or 12 years, then put them in the shed. One has a little damage where some of the walnut vinyl scraped off the top -- otherwise they are in great condition. Any experience on the best way to get these guys into a loving home? Ebay?

This is a phenomenal forum. Thank you. I'm in La Canada, California, where the fires are raging. If you look closely, you can see ashes on the ground next to the speaker. (We took the speaker outside just to photograph it.) We're novice sellers on eBay (our rating is "1", earned just a couple weeks ago with our first sale), so maybe one of these many suggestions is better than eBay for us.

Those are interesting, can you please take a pic of the back terminal and nameplate...just curious as they look different than a standard Monitor 10

    charlie,
Take a piece of tape and gently pull out the dented cap and re-take pictures and post them somewhere else. Use Duct Tape but be careful not to dent them even more. Gently apply tape to the center of the dent and lightly apply pressure and allow adhesion to build for a minute and pull the dent out. Tape has a pressure sensitive adhesive which builds adhesion with pressure and time.

Here are pictures of the speakers. Thanks CLPolk for seeing that these are monitor 11s. Right?

I got them in '85 or '86, at Bryn Mawr Stereo, in Bryn Mawr, PA. They moved to California in 1997, and they've been in my shed in La Canada, for 5 years or so.

    http://www.findinsurance.com/polk_monitor_11s

There is a link to a hi-res version of each picture, to the right of each picture.

NJPolker, thanks for the duct tape advice. The second speaker also had a dent. I fixed them both.

I took a picture of the back, and you can see that the serial number tag is falling off. I don't know if there was one on the other speaker, but there is not one now.

I don't see much on the 'net about monitor 11s, except that they are rare (in the sense that there are not many, but not in the sense that they are extremely valuable) but they seem to fetch a little more than 10s, from what very little I can see.

Yep, those are Monitor 11's, with SL-2000 tweeters. As you said, they are harder to come by than the 10's, but aren't really a whole lot more valuable.

Those ones look like they're in pretty good shape.

As far as value goes, I've seen them sell for around $125-175 on average, but I've seen them go for as cheap as $80, and as high as $275ish.

Ebay or Audiogon would be your best bet for selling them. Craigslist would also work.

If you stick around for a while and contribute 25 posts, you could also list them here.

    Charlie,
Nice speakers...they have been well taken care of.
Just start engaging in some of the discussions and yo will be at 25posts before you know it.
Shame to see those go to someone who would not appreciate them as much as someone from here would enjoy them.

Ok, after all this, my 15-year-old caught wind of how cool these things are, and he's appropriated them. As anyone who has a nice 15-year-old kid knows, that's that. I feel better about this route, after hearing all this enthusiasm here. Thanks folks, for your help and advice!

Awesome! I'm sure he'll enjoy them very much!!

Those are some great speakers, I'd hate to sell them if they were mine. Sounds like this is a much better option.

I had my eye on Monitor 7s from about age 12. It took me 14 more years until I actually bought a set of Polks. I looked at the 7's then my thoughts moved up to the 10's then the RTA8TL and finally I bought the RTA11TL when they were being discontinued.

    Enjoy them well
