My wife and I are looking for alternatives to Comporium's [Local HSI] high speed internet. Our only requirement is real simple. The same high speed internet at a reduced rate.

Here's the Comporium website. http://www.comporium.com/res/internet/packages.php We currently have the $44.95 plan.

Do we have an alternative? No bundle packages, no added BS........just high speed internet at less than $45.00 plus taxes a month.

Can it be had or are we stuck?

One more thing, and I don't know if it makes a difference or not, we have a wireless device to connect the computer right after the modem.

Thank you all in advance for any help you may provide our family.

Yeah, a higher price. Vonage, Windstream or maybe another national company is maybe where I might find a better deal. Being computer stupid just confuses the HELL out of me with all of the technical crap.

    I don't think you'll find it cheaper. I'm paying $49.95/ month w/ Time Warner-Road Runner.
And I just checked Hughs Net-FORGETABOUTIT!

Basically, you are limited to the wires that in your neighborhood. You'll have to get service from one of them or some company that is leasing to another company.

Easiest thing to do is go to ATT, Verizon FIOS, Local Phone company and whoever might be in your area. They all have web pages that will tell you their prices and if they are servicing your neighbor hood. The easiest way to find out what your options are, is to Go To Google or take a quick peak at the yellow pages

Your other options would include satellite internet (it has a horrible ping [not suitable for online gaming unless you like to die alot]). The installation charges can be somewhat expensive too. (Dish network & direct TV)

You might also see if clearwire or zoom and a few others are in your area. I don't think you will be able to beat the price you already have with them, but it is worth a shot. They are wireless ISP (Wisp) providers.

Another way to get internet cheaper is to take a slower package say a 2 Mb package instead of the 5 Mb that you have now (If you can deal with that).

You should have DSL service available if your in the city (thru ATT or your local phone company). That might be a bit cheaper.

    Hope that helps a bit,
    Scott

Phone company maybe a bit cheaper, and if price is the issue could you lower your speed a little. Maybe you could get by with a slower dsl speed even if you multi signal it out. Also are you being charged for the wireless hub adding to your bill?

I have Dry-Loop DSL from Verizon for $42. dollars a month, no tax or other fees billed to my credit card. I've had it for 4 years, very reliable speed and (knock on wood) it's never been down! My wife and I use a cell phones, no need for a land- line. I had one a couple of years ago but never used it and was tired of paying about 14 dollars in taxes and fees for a land -line not including the calling plan. Keep in mind we do have quality PDA smart-phones with good service, they are also on 24/7. The money I save goes towards something useful, like my premium Directv package. I know this is not for everyone but it works out well for us.

How does the sat. HSI work? I have always "heard" that there were constant hiccups. I do still have my dish.

The wireless device that you have (Wireless Access Point or Wireless Router) is "seen" by the network in the same way as a wired router and will not present a problem regardless of the "brand" of service you buy.
