M.A.G. for the ps3

So I had never heard of this. My buddy actually has received an invite for this to be one of the BETA testers.

M.A.G. stands for Massive Action Game. Its an online game that pits 256 people (128 people per team) in massive maps, that has an overall objective of winning, but also creates side objectives as the game progresses.

I did not get to see the game in action because it was a birthday party. But he states that basically your 128 person team is broken up into squads of 32 people. Now your squad will work as a team to complete objectives, while the other three teams are doing the same. As you rank higher in the game you can become squad leader and direct your 32 person team into what to do. You can rank as high as commander and direct the whole 128 person team.

Your weapons are your standard military fair. You also have vehicles you can drive. If you die you will respawn, but your respawn will be a military drop from a plane (parachuting), or repelling from a helicopter. The environment is basically open for any destruction.

He said the gameplay reminded him a lot of Battlefield. (Not a bad thing) And that the maps were massive, but he ran into a lot of the other squads during gameplay.

Graphically he said it was below Call of Duty 4, but the gameplay more than made up for the graphics. Which I would agree with 100%. Give me a great game, I don't care how real the rocks look or how pretty the water is. Also the servers are rock solid. No lag at all.

I am really looking forward to this.

MAG is being developed by Zipper, the guys behind the best SOCOM games (not SOCOM Confrontation, which was made by Slant Six). I believe they started the beta at 64 v. 64, which is half of their final goal, but it's also over double the max number of Resistance 2, which had the console record at 60 players simultaneously. There should be minimal lag because Sony will provide dedicated servers. That's the reason most of Sony's 1st and 2nd party games are free of lag (Resistance 1 and 2, MotorStorm, Warhawk, Killzone 2, ect), although 256 players is definitely a new benchmark.

game sounds very interesting my only concern is trying to get that many players on a team to all work together. i can see it now some kid just jerking around messing everything up and fight with his own team. but the game does look very interesting have to wait and see maybe be able to play the beta

Sounds awesome as far as I'm concerned.

I got into the beta. No lag whatsoever. It's amazing.

Hit detection needs a little work, but the game is unreal.

Just unloked a scope for my AN-94. I should be able to do a bit of double duty with sniping and mid to close range grunt work now. Enemies of S.V.E.R. beware!

    Nice. I'm on S.V.E.R. too.

I hope they open domination back up, or at least Sabotage. Getting a little tired of Acquisition.

I'd be curious if there are more maps too, or if this is it.

M.A.G is going to replace my Warhawk which is very fun games. I wonder how Sony server is going to handle 256 players in a single games. They are going to need a really HUGE server.

While it's only a small group playing right now, I have to say that the 256 player games were entirely free from lag for me. And they are an absolute blast. You would think it would be a cluster #$%^, but little battles rage on all over the map.

There are a few different game modes all with different limits on players. 128 vs 128, 64 vs 64, and 32 vs 32. All good games so far.
