This is Clayton Shaw's new project, the founder of Emerald Physics.

These servers will not only allow you to play tons of digital media with style, but the software allows for digital room correction remotely from anywhere in the world by Spatial Computer techies.

I've been wondering when someone was going to create a Mac-based server system. The real kicker is the DSP sound correction. That ought to be a fun toy for some.

I'm told Apple is working on a deal to distribute all the existing libraries of the big recording giants. Evidently, much of the music recorded in the libraries was done with 24/96 resolution to begin with . . . and downsampled later for CD. The prospects of this major change in the industry are inevitable given the fact that recording labels have to sell at least 200,000 to even begin turning a profit . . . based on the figues I've seen, at 25,000 albums sold via download, the record companies will make a profit.

Apple will stay quiet about these deals until they implement a solid front end of 24/96 in all of their computers. Then, they'll market it like crazy and virtually claim to have invented the new resolution that unites audiophiles with the masses.

I think Clayton is more concerned with delivering what he believes is the best product for the money.

I sent this email to the company explaining my requirements, and received the following reply. Although, it does not fit my needs, it does seem like a good product, and I appreciate the prompt reply.

    Subject: Music server

    Hello,

I am thinking of moving from my iPod/Wadia combination music server to a computer based music server. This music server needs to be able to copy the iPod files onto its hard drive, and play the Apple lossless files (or copy the files from my PC to its hard drive), and to be able to download and play high resolution digital files (24/96, 24/192, etc.) from Internet music sites.

I have an external DAC so the music server must have either an SPDIF or BNC connector for its digital output.

To be honest, I do not quite understand your product offerings. Do any of your products meet my requirements?

    Thank you.

    Reply:

    Hi Bud,

Our system will not work for you. It is designed as a system with firewire DAC/Pre. The point of our approach is to provide simple, reliable system with focus on room and speaker correction. It currently is limited to 24/96kHz.

    Thanks,
