So My brother bought a house with a home theatre room and bought everything in it as a house deal....

it has a projector...some older polks and 2 other brand name speakers.. 7.1

His receiver is a very high end rotel rsx1067.....which sounds pretty dang good....its a little older so it does not have hdmi or any of the new HD audio....

I know the rotel is high end but how does it compare to like a new onkyo sr806....

he only has a 720p projector and has nothing hooked up thru hdmi...he also had a sony bluray but thats also hooked up component...

I was telling him he should sell the rotel and buy something newer like the 806

I dont know nothing about the high end so am I wrong when I suggest that?

Thanks alot.

If your brother needs the newer features of todays receivers than he can replace it. If he puts music first, then keep the Rotel.

You said "TV & DVD only" how about BlueRay
Is he satified with the BR pic now?
Does his player allow for 1080p thru component?
    ...well read below...

Just did alittle checking on the Rotel site.
Just some 'data' to add to allow others to chime in with an educated suggestion.

    RDX-1067:
    100w/c @8ohm. 120wpc @ 8ohm (2channel)
AVR has 7.1 inputs, and 7(+cenetr2).2 (dbl sub) pre-outs.
Pro log II & DTS neo 6 plus "Rotel-XS"
Also Says "firmware updates" on the back panel, but I didn't see any updates for HD audio (other than the DVD-Audio & SACD already included)

Did see an interesting note on "Allowing progressive component passthru, so IF you had a BR that output 1080p thru comp, you could have it, since I have read that comp can actually carry the signal) But that is probally a whole nother thread discussion...hehe

You said you run comp anyway which his AVR has. HDMI can always go direct to tv or projector for 1080p, if the passthru didn't work out.

So if you run direct input into the multi's, that takes any "upgrades" the newer Oiker might have out of picture, at least as far as I understand things.

I personally like the quality of the sound of the Rotel, deep rich sound (I had an Rotel integrated for a while, and almost went with the 1097, but ended up with B&K 507) although I have not demoed an Onkyo.
Someone else will have to tell you if the Oinker can complete as far a the quality of the sound.

I would also suggest comparing the feature sets as well. Just in the few minutes I spent scanning the manual for the specs, the Rotel as a B**load of features....and customizations.

As a side note, a couple of the RSX-1067's are listed at $850 & $900 on Gon, co he would have $$ to buy something new if he wants the latest greatest Oinker.
