Looking To Dip Into SDA --

My performa 22's are starting to bore me, I need to try something else at least on a temporary basis with my NAD integrated. I'm not even remotely interested in the larger model SDA's as my 17x15' room size doesn't warrant such a purchase. What does amp my curiousity however are the smaller model 3.1tl, and especially the sda-1c and even the small crs (the one with 2 tweeters).

Is there much of a difference between the 1c's and the 3.1 tl? Judging from the driver array, the 1c looks to be superior. Thanks in advance.

Of all the SDA's, does anyone have a personal favorite? (other than the 1.2/2.3 tl's?).

I rather like my SDA-1's. After a week of listening, I found that I prefer having dimensional tweeters. It's just a matter of personal taste; I like the wider high-end sound stage.

1C's are what I would consider "The Classic" SDA. Medium sized, plentiful, 85% of the sound of the big boys, easy on the eye's. Sound absolutely fantastic with RD0 tweeters and Sonicaps.

CRS+ with single tweeter and pin/blade with original stands would be my 2nd choice if I was space limited. Then do the 4.1TL mod.

I like my SDA 1C's, the black studio version. If space was a problem either the 1C's or the CRS+ would be the way to go. The SDA 2B's with the RDO 194 upgrade is also an excellent choice. No disapointments in that group.

    Had both 1c's and 3.1tl's and I liked the 3.1's better in my 18 X 14 basement.

Also like the CRS's. I didn't have a lot of room in my basement so I could always put them up in the closet when not in use.

Barefoot...you are welcome to come over to my crib and get a listen...Got some 2b's in the H/T and 1C's in the 2-channel rig.
Maybe we can get other local polkies such as Tom and Russ up, everybody bring some gear and have a day of good times in the Man Cave trying out different kinds of amps/pre's/CPD's on the SDA's. All are welcome. Just let me know. Peace.

I'm game, just don't know when. I used to have Lsi9's and they were nice sounding, particularly the tweeter, but in all honestly they were just so boring. My Revel's do everything the 9's do only much better so it didn't make much sense to have the Lsi's hanging around collecting dust. Any 2nd set of speakers I get will have to be on the opposite side of the spectrum. Vintage, rough around the edges, probably floorstanding, and most importantly, fun.

The 2B's with the TL upgrade or the CRS+'s with the same would work the best in your room with that NAD.

After seeing some recent pics of the 1c's in scale with other h/t equipment i think you're right. They're just too damn big. So yeah the CRS's would probably make more sense. Thanks.

All this talk is making me want to get another pair  my place is small and the 1C's are kind of overkill....so I'd pick up some CRS/+ and put the 1c's away in the closet. Hmm...

the CRS and the stands they sit on, by the time you factor in floor space, are not a whole bunch smaller that the 1c's. I would go with the 1c's, as the difference in sound is worth the difference.;)

Barefoot, the 1C's would be a decision you would not regret. They are fantastic mid-sized speaker and they may be the last speaker you ever buy. The SDA imaging on the 1C's can produce some damn fine magic, given the right gear and space. Trust me. I've heard ther magic more than once in different locations. ;)

    Barefoot,
Be careful, that is a slippery slope you are standing on. The SDA's have grabbed a hold of people who were innocently looking to just 'try' them out.
Good luck on your search and hope they add some excitement to your music.

    How true it is.:D

When I got my 2A's, I figured I was just going to try them out and move on to something else. Now I'm planning on continuing down the SDA path for at least my next few speaker upgrades. My next pair will be coming along eventually...maybe next year. I'll most likely go with either 2B's, and perform the TL mods, or getting a pair of 1C's or SRS 2's. I'm also dreaming about owning a pair of the big boys someday.;)
