HT Setup Good or Bad

Awhile ago I bought some RTi A7’s for my home theater (prior to my round in the Sand Box AKA Iraq). At that time I really wanted the RTi A9’s but settled for the RTi A7’s. The A7 is a great speaker but I want to upgrade at the end of this tour. I will be going to a 7.1 Denon 4308 CI for my receiver and using A9‘s for the front, the CSi A4 for my center, DSW Pro 600 Subwoofer, and I would like to use the A7’s as my rears. So my question is will this be a good set up with using the A7’s as rear speakers? My other idea was since my receiver is a 7.1 I thought I would use the A7's as my rears but also invest in a pair of FXi 4's or 6's as my surround. Please share your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you.

Well, before we get into specifics about speakers/etc how big is the room theyll be going in? Will you have sufficient room for the 7.1? If you don't, stick to a 5.1 since a properly setup would sound better than a 'tossed in' 7.1 system. As far as the a9's and a7's go, I havent heard either myself but I keep hearing great things about the a7s especially in regards to midrange. How much do you plan on using this setup as opposed to music? 50/50, 70/30, might help in better choosing what your front speakers will be as well.

While the A7's will work as surrounds I'd say sell them and go with FXI a6's for the rears and sides. You should be able to get enough from the sale of the a7's to get two sets of refurbs from Polk direct.

    That would be my suggestion.

The A7's would kind of be overkill for surrounds...you'd probably get a lot more convincing rear soundfield with four FXiA6's.

Another welcome and thanks for serving. Here's my suggestion:
Follow the advice of both kawi, and leroy, but instead of 2 pr. of FXiA6's, get one, and get a 2 channel power amp for those 9's:)
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

+1 on what the guys have said so far. Freddy is right on with the suggestion to not rush into 7.1 just because your AVR is capable of doing it. I agree whole heartedly that a well setup 5.1 will outperform a crapmed 7.1 anyday. I have run both 7.1 and 5.1 and prefer my 5.1 setup I have now, compared to the cramped up 7.1 I had for awhile. Welcome to Club Polk and stay safe over there, have been to the Sandbox a few times myself and eventhough I am in the Air Force we still get to go to the "fun" places too, lol.
