That number is in the side of the driver... Do I have to remove the driver and look at the back of it?

The speakers are at work, All I know is that they were built in 1983, and that the have one tweeter, and one 6 1/2" driver, round binding post/crossover plate.

I will have to wait until Tuesday to get the info!

The SR 142/17 on the rubber surround is just an oem designation for the surround itself....it has nothing to do with a polk part number...I have no less then four 6 1/2" drivers here from 4 different manufacturers with the exact SR 142/17 designation on the rubber surround ( I can see Eton...Vifa...Polk....and the 4th I cant remember the raw drivers name...but its my in wall's from ACI/Audio Concepts )

Looking for correlation in Vifa's pdf's for the drivers, I have some of their older 6 1/2" woofers that use the 17W designation in the part number and they happen to have an OD of 170mm. Their new 7 inch woofers have 18W in the part number and they happen to be 180mm OD.

I also have some 5" vifa's in my ACI AV-1's....their rubber surrounds read SR 110/14 ......their OD is 140mm :)

So it looks like the 17 is just showing that the rubber surround flange fits/glues onto a frame of 170mm +/-

The preceding number 142 happens to equal 5.6 inches.....I grabbed my caliper and just measured the OD of the rubber surround only ...not including the flange part that glues to the frame....it was 5.6 inches exactly :)

So the surround itself has an exact OD of 142mm......and with the generously wide flat glueable area of the surround past that 142mm....it allows it to be used on frames measuring around 170mm...probably why they dropped the zero because with that wide glueable area it would work just fine with a 167mm frame or even a 173mm frame. Looks like they didnt want to label/limit it to just 170...so they marked it as 17.

    S R 142 / 17

Surround Rubber Surround OD 142mm 170mm frames +/-

    I looked at my CRS+'s ( Both pairs ) ....SRS's....2.3's....Monitor 10's....SDA 2b's....hell even the new 5jr+'s....every single polk 6 1/2" of that vintage had SR 142/17 on the surrounds....even the 6513's and the 6 1/2" radiators in the 5jr+'s ( Such cute little radiators :D )

MW6500's can be found here sometimes or you can try E-Bay. Maybe Polk has them too and are about $50.00 each freight paid.
